Bra sizes - confused

Young padwah seeking bra sizing wisdom!

Having recently lost a little weight (9.6kg!) I need new bras, mine are a bit saggy in the cup - nice look! Smile

I measured up and did boob or bust which came out as 30G Shock based on 30" tight, 32" snug, 37" standing bust, 39" leant over.

So that's... crazy, but ok fine. BUT my current bra is a 36C and when worn on loosest hook is fine except for slightly baggy cups - surely I can't be a G cup? And for interest I measured my current bra end to end and it's only about 30" long - but it's a 36" band??

What is going on? I HATE bra shopping at the best of times and now I've no idea what to even try with!

I think that you need to try things on.

I've lost 7 stone over the duration of the pandemic and once I'd lost a lot I spent so much money ordering bras online and returning them. Brans vary so much and styles within a brand, so I can be a 32 F in one brand/ style and a 34 G in another, which is quite a difference as going up both two cups and one band.

Now DD has noticed her bras don't really fit and we've measured and ordered but I've warned her its likely there'll be the frustrating circus of trying on and returning unless she tries on in store, which living where we do means a bit of a day trip to get to a proper bra shop, and she isn't really keen.

Boob or bust is absolutely rubbish in my opinion.

I think you have to try them on as different manufacturers no longer adhere to one universal sizing chart and you may be different sizes in different brands.

Although I must admit that because I don’t have big boobs I find that a 34c in most brands will fit me.

I think it may be the larger the bust the more difficult it is to get a good fit.

What dress size are you now?
A 30 back would be about a 12, iirc

I wear a 30 - size 10 back

TowelStripes · 01/08/2021 15:32

I'm 34G (size 12) and if you go down a cup you go up a back size. So 36C = 34D = 32E = 30F, so it's not a million miles away. worth buying and checking.I was measured as a 32GG but didn't like how tight the band was so went to to the next one and down a cup.

BluebellsGreenbells · 01/08/2021 15:39

The cup size chances with the band with

A 30G or 40G are very different is mass!

Chickydoo · 01/08/2021 15:41

I wear a size 8 and a 32 band. Can't stand things being too tight.

MackieMayor · 01/08/2021 15:43

I'm a 10 and wear a 30 back, sometimes a 28. The band should be what gives most of the support.

Seeline · 01/08/2021 15:49

If you measure 39" under your bust, that's what you are. If you measured 28" round your waist you wouldn't buy a 36" skirt!

Measuring your unstretched bra won't give you the band size. They are elasticated for a reason. To measure you need to stretch it out.

The band needs to be snug. That is where the main support comes from.

TheMarzipanDildo · 01/08/2021 15:54

30G sounds about right with those measurements (similar to mine). I would try 32F/FF as well though.

EnterFunnyNameHere · 01/08/2021 16:15

Huh, seems to be some different opinions (all of which are much appreciated!). I don't like things tight around my chest - and I'm not big enough in the bust that I desperately need the support that gives.

I would say I'm about a 12 on top - most of my size 14 & 16 tops (still not replaced!) are comfortably baggy now! Although clothing sizes vary so much these days I'm not sure what that means! I do sew my own gear (badly) and often am closer to a 10/12 on pattern measurements.

I'm distressed that I'll probably have to just try a load on though, did I mention I HATE bra shopping? Grin

Try brastop online. Free returns and have some decent sales.
