Day time black tie wedding

DH & I have received an invitation to a fancy sounding black tie wedding. It’s at 2pm. What should/shouldn’t I wear - there seems to be conflicting advice when I’ve searched online! I don’t know the bride very well so feel uncomfortable asking her.

I think I'd have to ask the couple. I thought Black Tie events by definition were evening so I wouldn't have a clue.

Are they American? Black tie is quite usual for day weddings there I think. I would think anything that is a longer dress that looks more eveningy would be fine.

I'd feel like a right twat dressed for the evening in the day mind you.

Long dress that's quite dressy

No, not American. I think I’ll also feel weird in an evening dress during the day.

It's fine as everyone is dressed the same & by the time the ceremony & food is finished it will be evening.
The only black tie weddings I have been to are day weddings. I've never been to a wedding of any type that starts at night, how would you fit everything in?
