Best kind of carpet for busy family?

We made a carpet mistake having never bought them before. It wasn't cheat but flattened straight away, we bought a vacuum cleaner with a brush and have it professionally cleaned every 6 months and it still looks like shit 18 months later.

We need to replace it and don't want to make the same mistake.
What carpet do you have that has lasted and lasted?
Please help!
(It has to be carpet, we hate no carpets, it's just not for us).

80% wool but it’s more expensive .... it won’t flatten and last 20 yrs if you want it to

I’d go for a shorter pile than a deep pile (hairy) ..... as my thicker carpets bug me. I think it’s easier to clean too shorter.

Defo not white / very light colour as it shows a shadow around the edge towards skirting boards ...

Have nice underlay - we have cloud 9 think that’s one of the better ones ..

We have got a decent underlay thankfully.

Thanks for the advice, I'm looking into these now.
Found a nice Berber and some wool as well.

Wool.
We have a 25 year old wool carpet in the most used room and it shampoos up lovely and is in fantastic condition. We will replace it with another wool carpet as we hate the colour but have lived with it since we bought the house as it's such good quality.
