Getting rid of old photos

As per my username I'm currently in the process of downsizing.

I have a load of old photos I want to get rid of. I've googled online but there doesn't seem to be much actual advice what to with them other than the smug blogs with "oh no you can't possibly get rid of old photos". Well yes, I bloody well can. I've kept all the ones I want to keep but I don't need 50 photos of some random holiday in Blackpool forever more.

I understand they can't be sent for recycling. Is it okay to burn them? Or just rid them up and send them for landfill?

You might want to scan them first (if you have a scanner and can be bothered)
I am in a similar position and am a bit reticent to throw them away but am aware they are of little or no interest to anyone else unless they are of buildings or places that may have changed over the years.

If you don't have a scanner you can always re-photograph them with your phone.

As for disposal, for any with identifiable people I will shred and put in the normal waste.

I've already kept the ones I want. Fortunately they were already together in specific events (e.g. Blackpool holiday 1995) so I could select a few of the best ones from each. Honestly, the rest are of no interest to anyone. I've offered to other family members to look at them and choose some but they've all said no.

Googling would suggest you’re right about recycling, so I think you just need to bin them.

Loads of artists (me included!) use them in collage. If there's no-one identifiable in a decent-sized batch you could stick them in a bundle on eBay.
