I rented a cottage in 2017 had a BT smarthub and a Youview TV box supplied by BT. I think the initial contract was only for a year but anyway it just rolled on until June this year when I left (suddenly)

I contacted them to say I had moved & had to pay a 1 month 'notice' fee even thought they said I was not tied into any contract by then.
They were VERY pushy about me taking my contract with me to my new place. I said that was not possible and eventually I shared that it was a DV situation & I was staying temp somewhere. They said I had to return equipment or pay hundreds of £ to them. I explained that my stuff is in storage. They said: return it or pay us the cost of equipment.

I've had 2 emails. They say they've sent a return bag (they've not but I don't think I supplied new address). I looked on the BT website and it says: 'equipment must be returned depends if you contract started before or after 13 Dec 2019. If on or after that date BT own everything and it has to be returned'. (this is dated Feb 2020 tbf).

Does anyone know if I will get into trouble if I can't access the stuff to send back to them, please?

I have had 2 emails from them.

Give them a ring on 0800 800 150. Explain your situation to them. Ask to open a complaint.

Thanks for the number @lobsterkiller

The previous person I spoke to was so pushy (re taking contract with me - I think it's awful I had to explain circs but she would NOT take no for an answer that I'm loathe to go through that again but may have to)

Does anyone else know if the Dec 2019 info is valid please?
I presume not or they wouldn't be chasing me?
