Ealing is supposed to be nicer. Acton is a bit edgier, Ealing mostly posher. I think Acton is more multi cultural for sure.

Ealing is huge and stretches from Acton boarder right over to Greenford & Hounslow etc. if you mean Acton town center v Ealing Broadway, then Ealing Broadway every time. It's much nicer, cleaner and better transport links (although both are on Crossrail). Acton is expensive and has some grotty bits, Ealing is expensive but is less grotty. But Ealing is further out, so it depends what you value.

I moved to Ealing from Shepherds Bush (like a lot of people do), and it felt like moving to the end of the earth (it literally is the end of the Central Line Grin), not just in the time it took to get there, but it's a lot more suburban and leafy.

Ealing without a doubt.

Sorry yes just realised my original message was probably confusing, was meaning the Acton ‘town’ area vs the Ealing Broadway/West Ealing area. I’m just looking for a nice place for a starter flat really, I’m working in the area so won’t be needing to get into central London. Sounds a bit vague but I don’t really have any other requirements, just a nice, friendly atmosphere

Well, it is quite nice. We are up towards the West Acton bit on a nice leafy avenue. Easy reach of Broadway. Acton Town centre is fine, there’s a lovely street leading to the park with grocers/bakers/coffee shops.

The centre bit where Morrison’s is has a lot of people on crack. It wasn’t nicknamed Cracton for nothing.

Hanwell is lovely - just up the road from Ealing (good busses to Ealing Broadway and a future crossrail station )
A bit cheaper than Ealing Broadway area but much nicer than Acton imo

In Acton, the area around Churchfield Road is great. Lovely houses and great independent shops and cafes and close to Acton Park. The rest of Acton not so much. North of Ealing Broadway towards Pitzhanger Lane and also around Northfields are nice areas too.
