Help me find a new career / job!

I haven’t worked much for the past 8 years (aside from a few part-time, work-at-home consultancy-type jobs in my old profession) because I’ve been at home with my children. Something I really wanted to do and have (largely!) loved.

My youngest will start school in September, so it’s time for me to actually find a job!

I know I don’t want to go back to my old career, even though I studied at postgrad level for years and years to get it.

I also don’t want to do any more studying. The thought of all that money and many more years studying fills me with dread!

Can anyone help me figure out what sort of jobs I should look for?!

I like working with children (or people, really), and I like being outdoors. I was thinking of a teaching assistant type role, but wondered if there were any more exciting variations on that?

Or just something that doesn’t involve being in an office all day! And is around people.

I would really like to be able to pick my children up from school most days - if not every day - too.

Any advice?!?

Starting again at my age is really daunting and I don’t feel very confident. And I’m the only one of my friends - and the only one of my siblings - who isn’t a high-earning professional.

What about a forest school?

Try joining an agency which specialises in your chosen field. My son has found a very fulfilling role this way, after feeling a bit lost job wise. It enabled him to try roles without a huge commitment.

I was going to suggest this too.

Ooh a forest school! Can assistants work there unqualified? Or do I need some training? (I will also Google).

An agency sounds like a great idea! I will search for ones in education type field.
