Flower stickers, on your bin?

AbsolutelyPatsy · 30/07/2021 17:40

I noticed a near neighbour has some nice flowers and googled you can buy these stickers
no a huge sticker, but lots of smaller ones,
i was already to order for my new bins, replaced by the council
i have number stickers and wanted flowers but DD was aghast and made ageist accusations >

would you do this?
or was she right to be wary?
are they in bad taste?

i saw a fantastic one on someones bin of a huge jack russell but liked the flowers

the idea of marking your bins is so that they are not misplaced by others. be it spray paint or your door number. doing up your bin the same as others is counter productive.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 30/07/2021 17:51

no one on my road has flowers
and i have the number on it Confused

AbsolutelyPatsy · 30/07/2021 18:31

Bloballbovish · 30/07/2021 18:49

@Mrsjayy I read that as dead birds and thought it was rather macabre.

Personally I think bin flowers look a bit twee, but I would consider them if I parked my bins by a very flowery section of my garden to help them blend in.

But if you like them get them, ignore your ageist DD! Your bins, your rules hun! Grin

aiwblam · 30/07/2021 18:51

It’s about marking your bin out really distinctively rather than just having your number on it in plain white. So bastards don’t nick it.

NannyR · 30/07/2021 18:53

It makes them more identifiable and less likely to get stolen, which is a regular occurrence around where I live - if they are going to steal a bin they will go for the easiest, plain option and not take one where they have to spend ages scraping stickers off.

missnevermind · 30/07/2021 18:54

We have a sticker of a cookie monster type thingy on ours. The kids picked it. We also have our house number.

HmmmmmmInteresting · 30/07/2021 18:55

I never understand why people steal bins. If you phone the council they send you a brand new one within days Confused

AbsolutelyPatsy · 30/07/2021 18:57

no, the flowers are to prettify it
plus of course i dont want any neighbour to pass off their broken bin as my brand spanking new one
my neighbour has extra bins , no idea how or why

Not where I live!

And trying to get them to take an extra bin which was there when we moved in was comedy- they wouldn't take a full bin, and they wouldn't empty two bins in one week because there weren't enough people in the house hold (actually according to the electoral register there were as the previous occupiers didn't update their details).

But bin stickers really aren't my thing. I can see they have a use though, if the bin men don't put the bin back in the right place.

NorthernDramaLlama · 30/07/2021 19:14

Our council charges for new bins. Recycling bags are free. Our bin is covered in a plethora of stickers - cats, dogs and ransoms. All with our number. We did it when DD was self isolating as we were bored. I don't think any one would take it. Not worth the effort making it anonymous again.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 30/07/2021 19:17

now you're talking @LynetteScavo

We have Disney stickers on all our bins.

Tibtab · 30/07/2021 19:22

If bin stickers make you happy, do it! Some people will hate it, but who cares!

Timeforredwine · 30/07/2021 19:25

I would do it just so they look prettier, you can get proper wrapping so its a whole bin cover but quite pricey.

Mrsjayy · 30/07/2021 19:32

@Mrsjayy I read that as dead birds and thought it was rather macabre

Oh no Shock

chellingham · 31/07/2021 08:24

Your bin your rulez

megletthesecond · 31/07/2021 08:30

You have to pay for a new bin around here. Hence it's best to personalise it and not lose one.
