I really don’t know why I continue to use them. Every week my online shop has issues. Most of the time I can’t even be arsed to complain about having to put something straight in the bin, or having a squished loaf or whatever, but today just takes the piss.

Not only is my order missing stuff but it’s not on the receipt so I can’t even work out what is missing, I’ve ordered a fuck ton of food for a bbq tomorrow and the fucking burgers are missing.

But get this, ordered 5 bottles of Prosecco, Tesco Prosecco, they have charged me £8 a bottle. They have delivered 1 bottle of the stuff I ordered and 4 bottles of something I have never heard of. Stuff I ordered is £7 a bottle. The stuff they have sent as a replacement is £7.50 a bottle I’ve just checked. They have over charged me for every bottle. Makes me think I should check the entire receipt but I dont have time as now I have to go out shopping for all the bits I’m missing (once I fucking work out what they are).

Grrrrrrrrrre

Have been online shopping with Tesco for about 15 years now and I fond them amazing . Very rarely an issue. Customer Service also excellent IF there is an issue.
Would be completely lost without them. Drivers all so lovely too.
Amazing service for 10 euro a month!
We are in I reland so maybe different over here but cannot fault them .

My 5pm to 6pm delivery STILL hasn't turned up Sad

Cookerhood · 30/07/2021 19:44

@PigeonPink

I get this a lot with Tesco. You put stuff in the basket then check out, but some of your stuff has vanished from the basket and hasn’t checked out. No idea why it happens but it’s massively annoying.
We get this too, it drives me mad. Or two of something when I order one. I think my hand must shake as I click!

The ‘disappearing items’ thing seems to have been fixed in the last few weeks - if you check out again and an item you added originally is out of stock it stays there now, and if they get some in between that time and your delivery it will come.

Have you phoned them? I find them very helpful when I have had issues, I’m sure they will refund the difference.

Mischance · 30/07/2021 19:57

Tesco have the option to add a note to each item - so you can say for example: "These burgers are needed for a BBQ on X date and I need you to find a substitute if these are unavailable. Please no vegeburgers."...... Or whatever you want to say.

If the sub they provide is a different price they always charge you the real price (if it is less) or the price of the originally ordered item (if it is more). I once ordered a section of brie and they did not have it - so they sent me a whole wheel of it - bargain!!

The reason I use Tesco is because of the facility to add a note.

Baystard · 30/07/2021 19:57

It's shelf life that winds me up. I often get things with less than the promised days shelf life, and last time some mange tout was actually rotten when it was delivered.

I find substitutions normally ok (and once or twice it's been a major upgrade) but recently I discovered they don't seem to take into account pack size. So e.g. I ordered 20 m tinfoil for £2. Substituted with tinfoil for £1 and refunded the pound. Fair enough? No, the substitute pack was 5 metres, and much thinner quality so actually twice the price.

Rascals!

If they haven't listed the items as short dated on the receipt then send them a message on twitter with a picture of the BBE date and they will refund it.
BettyAndFrank · 30/07/2021 20:00

This is why dh goes in person at 11pm when they’re restocking 😂

Baystard · 30/07/2021 20:08

They're good at refunding clickychicky but it's the fact that the salad I've ordered won't last until when I'd planned to use it that pisses me off. Plan a meal for 3 days time using products that promise 5 day shelf life. Arrive with 1 day shelf life. I meal plan, so it's not always easy to switch the plan at short notice. Argh.

I have to pull them up about something on nearly every order, I worry they think I'm taking the piss!

clickychicky · 30/07/2021 20:09

Yes I have exactly the same. I buy the stuff for 5+ days and then have to replace everything. Was just checking you knew it could be refunded as I didn't when I started.

clickychicky · 30/07/2021 20:10

*replan everything.

UrgentExit · 30/07/2021 20:13

I don't have any problems with Tesco. When I go in to amend an order if something's unavailable it says there's an issue with an item and has a 'bring it to the top' button so you can see. It also has a banner that says this item WILL be removed from the basket when you check out.

I also find Clubcard only prices are very clearly marked.

We've been lucky to have few totally unavailable or substituted items but subs are always of better value. I do use the notes for packer option to give guidance as to what I'd prefer if possible.

Recently my card had expired between ordering and delivery and I got a text to call them, when I did they connected me with the store who took an up to date detail and my order came as planned.

I can't fault them over many, many years.

Baystard · 30/07/2021 20:13

Thanks clickychicky Smile

Vooga · 30/07/2021 20:13

This just prompted me to check my previous order on the app as I was sure some things were missing but they weren't on the receipt so I thought I must have imagined adding them!

Nope, they were there in the app. That's really annoying. I need to be more vigilant.

MadisonAvenue · 30/07/2021 20:25

It’s not changed for me, I’ve had it happen with this morning’s delivery.
PigeonPink · 30/07/2021 21:36

If the item is not on your receipt at all it means you didn't actually order them
No, it frequently happens that you put stuff in your basket and continue shopping, and some items mysteriously disappear from your basket. Then you check out without realising those items have disappeared, and you don’t realise until your delivery arrives without those items.

justasking111 · 30/07/2021 22:55

OH asks why I don't online shop. It's not foolproof as you all have proved. There's only the two of us now and I admit to being an impulse buyer and buy what I fancy depending on the weather my mood

Twillow · 30/07/2021 23:09

The thing is, the pickers can only pick what's on the shelves so with the rather variable stock and shortages at the moment it's not always easy for them. The best thing to do is write notes in the substitutes boxes especially for any item that's really important i.e. any meat burgers acceptable. Their principle is to give you something better that's then price matched so (in theory) you can't lose. The difficulties usually come when they have to get shop floor staff in to help pick on very busy days and they're not always so experienced/motivated. My friend is a delivery driver for them and she says she is overwhelmed by how grateful most people are - imagine if you had to pay yourself for the time and petrol it takes, often she drives over 100 miles for 5 or 6 deliveries. I don't know how they do it really!

POPGoesTheBandit · 30/07/2021 23:16

I can't stand Tesco. I stopped shopping with them when they sent me a block of cheddar with teeth marks in it

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 30/07/2021 23:18

I tried Tesco and hated it. The majority of the fresh food they sent had a sell by date 24 hours later!
Never used them again.
Morrison’s and Ocado have been pretty faultless for me

Cookerhood · 31/07/2021 09:14

Ocado sent us a chicken that was 3 times the price of the one I ordered (it was delicious, if huge) but charged us the new price, which Tesco wouldn't do. They did refund it when I complained.

RampantIvy · 31/07/2021 09:20

Tesco orders are usually picked by the nearest large Tesco, and it really is a lottery where your order comes from.

Our local Tesco delivery pickers are excellent, and I have very rarely had a problem with their deliveries, and when I did their customer service was second to none.

Since covid it has been very difficult to get a delivery, and since I am not time poor, and there are usually only two of us to cook for I just go shopping instead.

I will reiterate what most posters have said - there are shortages of some groceries and household items because of covid and Brexit, and if you want to be absolutely certain of getting something it is far better to go to the shop and buy it yourself rather than ordering online.
