Ahhhhhh fucking TESCO the useless and robbing bastards

I really don’t know why I continue to use them. Every week my online shop has issues. Most of the time I can’t even be arsed to complain about having to put something straight in the bin, or having a squished loaf or whatever, but today just takes the piss.

Not only is my order missing stuff but it’s not on the receipt so I can’t even work out what is missing, I’ve ordered a fuck ton of food for a bbq tomorrow and the fucking burgers are missing.

But get this, ordered 5 bottles of Prosecco, Tesco Prosecco, they have charged me £8 a bottle. They have delivered 1 bottle of the stuff I ordered and 4 bottles of something I have never heard of. Stuff I ordered is £7 a bottle. The stuff they have sent as a replacement is £7.50 a bottle I’ve just checked. They have over charged me for every bottle. Makes me think I should check the entire receipt but I dont have time as now I have to go out shopping for all the bits I’m missing (once I fucking work out what they are).

Grrrrrrrrrre

Did you specify whether you wanted substitutions?

Snozzlemaid · 30/07/2021 11:19

If there are things not on your receipt and you didn't get them then that would suggest you didn't check out properly when you added them.
They always list everything you order even if not available.
Can you look at the list you were emailed when you checked out?
Are they showing on that list?

ginghamstarfish · 30/07/2021 11:24

Annoying but you need to say what substitute you would like if something is not available. You should not pay more for a substitute though, but I always find their customer service helpful and quick to refund.

I don't really understand allowing substitutions then not being happy when they arrive.
Some people would have been happy they had the five bottles they asked for even though 4 were different.

I have never used Tesco delivery though, only have knowledge of Waitrose and their ordering system.

Not necessarily, I've had this happen before. The order prior to what was actually put through the toll can be found on your most recent order acknowledgement email.

RampantIvy · 30/07/2021 11:29

There have been other threads on MN about online grocery shopping. So many places have been affected by staff shortages due to them having to self isolate, driver shortages due to Brexit and stock shortages due to both.

I have given up trying to do an online shop and just go shopping instead.

MadisonAvenue · 30/07/2021 11:38

Something that’s been annoying me with Tesco orders over the last few months is how there’ll be a message in the basket against certain items that you can’t increase the amount. That says to me that they’re low on stock, yet when I checkout the item completely disappears from the order, with no notification and I’m not given the option of choosing a suggested alternative or leave it open for a substitution (which I assume it should do seeing as it’s stating that there’s some availability seeing as it’s not actually showing as out of stock).

Tana433 · 30/07/2021 11:40

Ive been using them every week for month with no problems. I always have the no subs ticked so if something isnt available i just dont get it. It happens very rarely though. This week no paracetamol, no big deal. Im really really grateful to them, they have a crappy job that i wouldnt want to do but every driver i have had, without fail has been polite and cheerful.

RavingAnnie · 30/07/2021 11:40

I don't understand this.

I get an online shop from Tesco every week.

As the items arrive I unload them and see each item (as nothing is delivered in bags any more you can't help but do this) and check any substitutions which are detailed at the top of your receipt.

So if any item were damaged or there was a substitution I did not want I just return it to the driver. It's very straightforward.

Missing items are tricker to spot but this happens very rarely ime and when it does I call Tesco to advise and they refund.

If the item is not on your receipt at all it means you didn't actually order them. This is easier to do that it sounds if you are not carefully checking that the item has actually made it into your basket. Either that or you didn't check out an order change properly.

Have you been in a supermarket in the past fortnight?? Empty shelves everywhere. Why do think you are special and should be able to get goods which aren't on the shelves for everyone else? Thats just how things are atm. If you don't like your delivery service go to the supermarket and if you can't do that go find someone else to do your shopping for you. See how well you do atm...

I hate to agree with the 'well go shopping yourself' brigade. But this poster is right.

My local Asda has been short for a while and my local spar hasn't had bread in for about a fortnight!

dontgobaconmyheart · 30/07/2021 12:41

You don't have to allow substitutions full stop and have the opportunity to reject them when it arrives, with the driver. They are shown at the top of the paperwork.

Inconvenient (and that is why I don't online shops these days if I am wanting specific brands/pack sizes etc) but hardly 'robbing' is it, on any level. You can go and return them regardless. Food retail has significant supply chain issues so to be honest at the moment I would expect any supermarket shopping order to arrive with a number of items missing.

poorbuthappy · 30/07/2021 12:44

I am clearly missing something here going by the above posts - if the substitution is cheaper than the missing item then surely you would not be charged the higher price?

MythicalBiologicalFennel · 30/07/2021 12:49

You can reject substitutions when you receive them.

They have over charged me for every bottle.
That's odd, you should not have been overcharged for substitutions. I get substitutions often and I have always been charged the lower of the two prices. Get on to customer services or send them a quick e-mail, I find they always respond fast and process refunds quickly.

someonelockthefridgealready · 30/07/2021 12:49

I have read something different from the others - I understood that OP has been charged 8 pounds per bottle that she should only have paid 7.50 for the four substitute bottles (price as checked online) and 7 pounds for the bottle of what she originally ordered.

Definitely complain OP.

BasinHaircut · 30/07/2021 12:51

Subs are fine in principle but they were not noted on the delivery note, that says I have received the ones I ordered, and the bottles similar looking enough to not notice when unpacking. I don’t actually mind the subs as such (as I won’t be drinking it, it’s for guests) but it’s the fact that they have charged me a higher price than it should have been for either bottle.

I also don’t mind as such when items are missing - that’s just one of those things - but they were all present and correct when I checked out. They seem to have just fell off the order.

Just having a rant. Don’t think I’m special - what a strange thing to say Confused

I have regular Tesco deliveries and very very rarely have any issues. This week there were 2 items I didn't get and that was probably the first time it has happened this year. When there is a problem their customer service is excellent.

I don't have substitutions, id rather not bother if something isn't available.

ODFOx · 30/07/2021 12:58

If you go in to update your order on the day before it is due they will remove th out of stock items but not send a notification: that's how they don't appear on your receipt. It is very annoying but not as annoying as having to do a whole supermarket shop in the store so I don't mind so much.
The burgers for a barbecue or the Christmas Rurkey is pretty disappointing though.

I think it depends on what they substitute. Sainsbury's decided to send me 3 bags of Birds Eye mixed veg instead of an 85p bag of ice. Confused
Blossomtoes · 30/07/2021 13:08

This is why I go to the supermarket in person.

Dotoallasyouwouldbedoneby · 30/07/2021 13:12

Try Asda, they make sensible substitutions and clearly set out by email what has been substituted for what; and you can hand back to the driver knowing in advance what they have sent.

Leftbutcameback · 30/07/2021 13:17

Looks like the picker wasn’t paying attention when picking up the fizz - I’ve had this once before and managed to get a refund with no problem. If stuff is missing full stop it may be an issue with the system not checking out properly - I recall this happened a few months ago and loads of people just got a couple of things they’d put in their basket to hold the slot.

TigersandTeddybears · 30/07/2021 13:24

Picker packers have very high time targets, they have to fulfil the orders so quickly that mistakes are inevitable. This does just sound like human error to me. So whilst that is incredibly frustrating, it's also just the way it is with home delivery (especially since Covid). That said Tesco should refund any in-discrepancies if you speak to their customer service team. It's really up to you whether it is worth your time to do this for the possible small refund. Usually if it's a matter of pennies I leave it, or if it's a matter of pounds then I will speak to them. Other people might only be bothered if they have lost tens or hundreds of pounds, I guess it depends what that stress is worth for you.

LibbyL92 · 30/07/2021 13:29

Been using them the last 4 years delivery every Monday.

Never had a single issue!
Subs have always been decent.

On two occasions they failed to turn up, but both times rectified. I cannot fault them

Ahh if they look similar then the picker has made a mistake. I find if you send them a message on twitter they are really good at refunding you. Especially when it's not listed as being a substitute or a short date.
