Are ALL opticians doing appts only (for choosing frames)?

I was a disappointed today as I thought I'd browse some frames (not urgently needing) and the doorway was still roped off and appts only.

It seems a bit odd when shops on either side are freely open and not even requiring masks (although I am still wearing mine.)

I did ask if I could just spend a few minutes looking at the frames and was told no, they don't want it to become too busy .

I assumed all places except dentists and drs were back to normal, as most large branches of opticians are 'shops' not medical centres, unless you are booked in for an eye test.

I guess part of the issue is I just want to be left alone to browse the frames and not have an asst hanging over me.

they're classed as NHS premises so still appt only.

however, we were in there this week with dcs appts and when choosing glasses were left to get on with it.. only thing is every pair we touch/try on, has to be put in a little box to be cleaned.

my independent opticians let me pick some frames. Specsaves seems to be a pain but they're overpriced imo anyway

Opticians are still governed by the GOC and the the majority have NHS contracts. They have to control numbers in the "shop", still wear masks and ppe and sanitise constantly. Appointments are normally 30 minute slots, just call and make one!

@Starlitexpress You don't know my circs! I did make an appt at the door when I was there, but it's not super-convenient for me to book ahead.

It just seemed odd as I say when as a High St branch, shops were fully open either side of them.

@Nitgel Are they expensive? I assumed they were cheaper than indy opticians.

I've been out of boots even pre july 19th and even though they say they're only appointment only, if there aren't lots of people around they'll let you in.

Interesting.

I live rurally so going out to the shops is a drive, and I need to sort out my days/ work to go out. As I was going for food shopping anyway, I thought I'd pop in and choose some frames .

Was just very surprised to see it all being 'managed' as much.
