Cover story needed for child leaving school

DD, 13 is miserable and after attempts to sort it out we are finally taking her out of school. There may be a place coming up soon at an alternative school, or it may be up to a year. We will home school her in that time.

However, it seems like a good idea for her to tell her old classmates a reason for her to be leaving so she doesn’t cause additional rifts, as people live locally. Given that she isn’t going anywhere else straight away, the only thing I can think of is health? She has a long term auto-immune condition which could have got worse I suppose?

Any other ideas? Thank you in advance.

As someone who has homeschooled for two years, my girls still meet weekly with good ex school friends. The girls have made new homeschool friends too

Let her blame you! That's what my dd did...

Your the parent making her life descion because she's a child.. She can even throw in "I don't want to leave"

Mustbemagic · 31/07/2021 13:10

I think her making out it's her parents decision may work best.
No lies.
She has to say something - a girl I knew left school without saying a word, she then returned to be with original classmates in sixth form and it was just awkward for her. Everyone still had unanswered questions years later!

Never explain, never apologise. You owe no one a reason. 'I'd rather not say' will suffice.

I allow my teens to say ‘ it’s my Parents decision’ in some circumstances where otherwise they would get hassle. It’s so common for teens to blame their parents it’s usually accepted without question.

Personally, i am still struggling to understand why you would even remove and home sch yr child in such critical , crucial educational yrs.

You remove yr child, the bully's win. How is that justice? What does that tell yr child? What does that mean for your child's future?

Your child should stay, avail of the full education that is being afforded to them and fulfil their potential.

You are their mum, you are there to support , strengthen and guide, not to leave, take them out and shy away from this issue.

Your child is about to leave mainstream education , in their most crucial yrs and, you are asking for poss illness excuses to use ?

Get a grip woman and take control . Get your child back in their current sch and sort this shit out for Sept. Illness my arse, this is really yr beef with the sch isn't it Op? If her friends were so bad and bullying why would you want yr DD to maintain those friendships?

You have had a hissy fit and threatened to home sch and now looking to garner sympathy /support by saying yr child is ill. This issue is yrs and not yr child's.

For gods sake put yr daughter back in sch and be a grown up. Support her, stop letting your own issues dictate her sch experience.

Good lord. What appalling advice. You cannot even spell "you're " correctly and you are also advising the Op to tell her child to , tell her friends , " i don't want to leave " when , she has already left.

What does she say?

‘My parents decided homeschooling was working better, so they want to stick with it for now. I didn't mind so that's what we're doing’

What do you say?

‘We decided homeschooling was working better for her, so we’re sticking with it for now’

When you get asked why?

‘She seems happier and more settled with homeschooling, it's good for her wellbeing’

What do you and she say when she goes to the new school?

‘We tried homeschooling for a while, but decided it was time to try something different. It would have been hard to go back to her old school after leaving, so we’re trying a new one'

girl71 · 31/07/2021 21:18

@Panickingpavlova yes, because you were talking shit.

No idea want yr pikey "up arrows" mean. Unsurprisingly, not in my keyboard repertoire . But here is a passive aggressive smiley face emoji 😁 in response to yours.

@UrgentExit

'My parents want to stick with home school for a while longer' End of conversation.
This.

And if a place at the other school comes up, "We are going to try this new place, see if it suits". Honestly, by then it'll be yesterday;s news.
