Day out in the New Forest

We’re hoping to spend a day out in the New Forest with 3 teenagers, one is autistic and so we have to plan ahead and any activities have to be carefully planned. What we hope to do is some nice drives/walks through the forest to see the ponies and then have a nice meal somewhere. Has anyone got any suggestions of a pub or restaurant for a lovely meal?

We were here for lunch a couple of weeks ago. They serve very decent pub grub. I ordered ham salad and it was really good. DH had lasagna and chips, which he said was excellent.

Just up the road from there, you’ll find a car park which gives access to walks over the forest. We saw ponies and donkeys. All the car parks in the New Forest are free.

You can often see the ponies from the train near brockenhurst if that appeals.....

The New Forest Inn is nice, Beaulieu is quite interesting for teenagers that like cars too!

The Pig was on BBC2's Remarkable Places to Eat fairly recently, if it's still on iPlayer.

The ornamental drive is a lovely scenic route and the deer sanctuary at ghe end (bolderwood) is a nice place to stop for a walk and you might see some deer. A nice pub near there would be The Oak at Bank.

Places to eat:
The Drift Inn Brockenhurst
The White Hart Cadnam
The Crown Stirrup Lyndhurst

Yes it has become very popular off the back of it though, very hard to get a table there now!

Thanks you, I’m off to google your suggestions. The only problem is I’m in bed and start to get hungry just reading the menus!
