Does anyone understand New York City streets?

How do I find out which part of NYC a building is in and which area/district if it's on East 53rd and 2nd Avenue. I probably worded that wrongly. It's like another language to me.

Do you know the name of the building.

I'm no expert but I think it depends on the address number but you're probably looking at this block here

Hi. I do! The streets go North to South and the Avenues go East to West. So if you type E53 and 2nd into Google it will show you on a map. That's midtown, towards Sutton Park.

Avenues run up and down and streets run across. Avenue numbers increase right to left and streets numbers increase bottom to top. Fifth Avenue is the east/west divide.

If you look it up on Google Maps it has district names on - Midtown East it says here. Probably not 100% accurate but good enough!

It's Midtown - apparently called Turtle Bay.

Have a look at this apartment listing.

If you Google east 53rd 2nd Ave it shows the roads , Midrown Manhatten area. You see east 53rd running horizontally with 2nd ave vertically running off jt.

Thank you all so much.

The avenues (generally) run top to bottom and streets run across (in most of Manhattan - Queens, no, it's really confusing out there). 1st Avenue way on the east side, then numbers go up, 2nd, etc. as you move west. It's not quite that simple, but it gives you an idea. Mostly you just need to google it and look to see where it is.

Mid town and up town are on grids so I found them really easy to navigate. Down town is not grided and reminded me of London so very confusing streets.

The avenues run up and down and 53rd runs across. When you take a can in NY you always have to give them the coordinates.
