You know how some kids's clothes have buttons to adjust the waistband?

Can you buy something that'll do the same to an adult pair of trousers, without having to cut them? I've tried searching elastic belt, and no buckle belt but they're not right.

Anyone know if such a thing exists & what it might be called?

Tia :)

Maternity trousers sometimes have them, so,perhaps it's called maternity elastic?

Google waist adjuster

You can buy the buttoning elastic and sew it into existing trousers. If you don't want to cut into the waistband though, it might be a bit limited as to what you can do.
Would a straightforward belt not work?

Do you mean an existing pair of trousers or do you want to buy a pair like this - if the latter, many maternity trousers are made like this.

You can buy the elastic with button holes in it - I used to adjust lots of DD 's clothes when she was small. You do need to find a hole in the waist band though - either undo side seams or create openings (rather like large button holes)

You would literally have to cut the existing waist, no matter what you use.
hugoagogo · 28/07/2021 21:44

You could maybe do it without cutting if you sewed a channel into the inside somehow- maybe by sewing a wide ribbon inside the waistband and then threading the button elastic though that?

hugoagogo · 28/07/2021 21:46

Oh maybe I misunderstood- it's called button elastic.

I've got a simple thing that has a button one end, to put in the buttonhole of your trousers, a bit of elastic inbetween that and a button hole to fix on to your button hole in your trousers.

I think I got it from Amazon.

lucysmam · 28/07/2021 22:02

Hmm, thank you all.

The waistband elastic is sewn through several times so would be a pita to unpick. And, there are no belt loops.

Maybe button hole elastic & a couple of buttons on the inside are the way to go.

Thanks again for the ideas

Is it to make it bigger or smaller?

I think you can get these for adults if you look at the brands that advertise for older people (60+) often in the sunday supplements of the newspapers. so not fashionable but they are comfy. I think there used to be one called country-casuals but I might have forgotten the name.
