Just had a disappointing packet of mini cheddars

I need to preface this with the fact I’ve had a few glasses of wine, and a shitty day, so I’m feeling very contemplative.

With said red wine, I had some mini cheddars that I found in the cupboard. I don’t know how they got there but thought they’d make a nice snack to go with the wine. What a bloody disappointment. Bland flavour, lack of crunch, and a very small portion. This was not the snack of my youth.

This got me thinking, why is everything now so fecking shit? I see threads on here all the time about chocolate tasting like shit nowadays, the rotten state of Dairy Milk, chocolate bars and sweets which have been RUDELY discontinued etc etc.

Feeling very sad. And disappointed. It’s a sad state of affairs.

There are vanishingly few in a packet.

It’s not worth the bother of opening one.

My 7 year old had a packet that had about 6 in the other day, she was not impressed.

Cathedral city baked bites are what you need

HollyGoLoudly1 · 28/07/2021 21:01

Try Aldi's fake mini cheddars. Much nicer imo although that could mainly be down the salt content.

Placing an Internet shop soon. Is the consensus crinkly cheddar or sticks are better?
Vital question to be answered Grin

Nope, they're just as bland as the McVities cheddars.
Candyapple49 · 30/07/2021 09:33

I add salt to mini cheddars - so unhealthy but makes them taste like the mini cheddars of my childhood !

Whatwouldscullydo · 30/07/2021 09:42

I hear you op

I keep panicking over got covid or something cos everything either tastes like crap or tastes of nothing.

Crisps are ruined. Unless u buy the more expensive kettle chips and the like.

Fizzy drinks. Ruined.

Chocolate. Ruined.

I remember my first taste of Nutella 30 odd yrs ago, jt was delicious. Now it's just an oily mess.

Most cheese smells and tastes like feet now too.

Ketchup. Shit now.

Do you smoke?
SprayedWithDettol · 30/07/2021 09:51

You want pretzels. Much nicer in my book.

Threewheeler1 · 30/07/2021 09:52

This is weird - was saying exactly the same yesterday Shock
Had a bag of mini cheddars and was convinced they were stale. They weren't, they were just rubbery and tasteless.
I was quite excited about my reckless, mid-afternoon crisp munching but it was a mighty disappointment which led me on to a fairly long rant about how food now generally tastes like greasy sawdust.
Completely agree OP

beingsunny · 30/07/2021 10:36

What are all. These delicious sounding mini cheddar flavours you speak of Shock

Ex pat here who has to pay £5 for an almost stale packet as a rare treat from the foreign shop.

Mochudubh · 30/07/2021 10:54

I bought a multipack of the Wee Cheddars Strathdon Blue last week and they were so bland, no taste of blue cheese at all.

Enough4me · 30/07/2021 13:45

@SprayedWithDettol good reminder, I'm now looking out for pretzels.

if you're fond of baking, you could have a go at cheese straws.
Wantingtogetitright · 30/07/2021 15:08

They will never ever be forgiven by me for ditching the crinklies. The flavoured ones don’t cut it.

MirandaMarple · 30/07/2021 15:09

@HeddaGarbled

Mini Cheddars have always been a bit soapy compared to proper Cheddars (aka big mini cheddars according to my mum), IMO.
Your Mum is right. You can still get one big mini cheddar in your mouth in one piece. Don't bother with the mini mini cheddars.
SpiceRat · 30/07/2021 15:33

The Aldi knock offs are decent.

I loved the crinkle cut cheese and onion ones, I could hoof down the entire 6 pack in one go but I haven’t been able to find them for a while.

Oh I just saw this did they discontinue them? Wah they were loads better!
pootleforPM · 30/07/2021 16:14

The Dragon's Breath ones are really nice, much more flavour!

Toddlerteaplease · 30/07/2021 16:19

I couldn't bring my self to eat Mini cheddars for ages, after adopting a cat who name is officially Mini Cheddar!

Lovely !! MC rocks !

Durbeyfield · 30/07/2021 19:35

I had a similar experience with a KFC bucket a few months ago. I felt very let down, I can tell you.

Ohmygodyesthatsit · 30/07/2021 19:42

I once sent ont my dp to get a packet of cheddars (full size ones) as i love them with st augur spread on them. He came back with a muti pack of mini cheddars as they were on offer Hmm i was spreading st augur for fecking hours so so so cross

Cheeseandlobster · 30/07/2021 19:50

@Mustardbay

Try the red leicester ones, much tastier!
Oh yes. I don't even like mini cheddars. I mean are they biscuits or crisps for gods sake? But the Red Leicester ones, are amazing
rubydoobydoo · 30/07/2021 19:56

Can you still get the Branston pickle flavour mini cheddars? They were amazing and haven't had a bag in ages!
