Just had a disappointing packet of mini cheddars

I need to preface this with the fact I’ve had a few glasses of wine, and a shitty day, so I’m feeling very contemplative.

With said red wine, I had some mini cheddars that I found in the cupboard. I don’t know how they got there but thought they’d make a nice snack to go with the wine. What a bloody disappointment. Bland flavour, lack of crunch, and a very small portion. This was not the snack of my youth.

This got me thinking, why is everything now so fecking shit? I see threads on here all the time about chocolate tasting like shit nowadays, the rotten state of Dairy Milk, chocolate bars and sweets which have been RUDELY discontinued etc etc.

Feeling very sad. And disappointed. It’s a sad state of affairs.

Try the red leicester ones, much tastier!

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 28/07/2021 19:57

I bought a massive bag of them the other day and yes, they were shit

Enough4me · 28/07/2021 19:58

Lime & chilli are lovely, alongside Gouda cheese and strong pickled onions, yum!

Mini Cheddars have always been a bit soapy compared to proper Cheddars (aka big mini cheddars according to my mum), IMO.

tubbycustardtummyache · 28/07/2021 19:58

I was very disappointed with the blue cheese ones recently, so much so that I gave them to dd2 (she loved them!)

NotTheMrMenAgain · 28/07/2021 19:59

I had a disappointing packet of salt and vinegar chip sticks the other day - the texture seemed different than I remembered. I think recipes have been changed to make products more cheaply or to make them seem less unhealthy, now that the red/amber/green thing is on the packaging. Sad times......

turtletaub · 28/07/2021 20:02

I had a bag of monster munch the other day with 4 'claws' in it. Still pissed off. My DPs heard about it about 5 times since

hugoagogo · 28/07/2021 20:03

You want the cheese and chive crinklys

MrsJaneyLloydFoxe · 28/07/2021 20:06

hugoagogo oh my god where can I buy those!!! I’d forgotten about those

I second the Red Leicester ones - I can't eat the others since being converted to Red Leicester!

Kanaloa · 28/07/2021 20:07

I’ve never had a non disappointing bag of mini cheddars really. The only use for mini cheddars is to put in the packed lunch of someone you want to subtly tell you don’t love them.

A few months ago I had a little bottle of red cola which was the staple of my youth. Turns out it’s repulsive and I was just weird as a child.

HeronLanyon · 28/07/2021 20:08

The red low water ones - huge vote here for them. They seem to have additional seasoning on the reverse - really tasty. Normal seem less salty than before.

HeronLanyon · 28/07/2021 20:08

Leicester not ‘low water’ ffs

MaidenoftheSpear · 28/07/2021 20:09

Try the Cheddars flavoured with the spicy Welsh cheese, Dragons something?- top snacking. Salt and vinegar Chip Sticks are grim these days, terrible shame.

Enough4me · 28/07/2021 20:09

Kettle salt & vinegar crips are the snack I crave. They beat cheddars (even the chilli & lime, & crinkled ones).

HeronLanyon · 28/07/2021 20:09

May i also recommend the mini cheddar sticks - really seasoned - excellent. Having not had any for years I’ve been conducting minor taste test of them all.

Yip, both DS love these! You get them in B&M, OP.
hugoagogo · 28/07/2021 20:25

The crinklys seem to be available intermittently at various different supermarkets. Waitrose is usually a safe bet, but often they are only mixed packs, but I make dh eat the weird chilli beef ones.Grin

BettyAndFrank · 28/07/2021 20:27

I prefer ritz 😋

BadgertheBodger · 28/07/2021 20:29

Save yourself the crushing disappointment and buy some Aldi cheese thins. They are the Aldi version of the big cheddars but slightly thinner and infinitely more delicious

TheAwfuITruth · 28/07/2021 20:31

The crinklys were the best.

More flavour, more crunch, less clag.

HopeClearwater · 28/07/2021 20:32

why is everything now so fecking shit?

You know why. The pursuit of profit. Capitalism. I will never forgive Cadbury’s for selling out. All that use of palm oil is ruining the environment too.

heidihigh · 28/07/2021 20:36

Cheese & chive crinkly cheddars are the way forward. The original mini cheddars are a bit shit IMO, very bland.

SemperIdem · 28/07/2021 20:39

The the jalapeño and nacho cheese flavour ones you want. I’m obsessed with them.

MrsJaneyLloydFoxe · 28/07/2021 20:40

Going to Waitrose tomorrow to buy some of the crinkly cheddars, will report back
