Hello
My partner suffers from quite severe anger issues, which we think stem from watching abuse as a child. This is currently controlled by smoking (I know…) Last year he decided to stop smoking, and I’ve never seen anything like it, he was fine, and then all of a sudden it would be like a different person was there, he would be shaking, crying, sweating, shouting and breaking things- I genuinely thought he would end up passing out. His legs and arms would start twitching, it was really extreme, and most of the time he couldn’t even hear me. We obviously realised that it couldn’t continue, and he wasn’t ready to see anyone at the time, so he started smoking again, and he’s maybe done this once or twice since.
He’s now decided he’s ready to give up smoking, and try some sort of anger management. He’s asked if I can help him, and so I’ve looked online, but I’m really struggling to find any sort of anger management service. I believe you can self refer, but the self referral says that it doesn’t provide help with anger issues, and to ring the GP- the GP won’t provide me with any information on his behalf, and he is too anxious to ring the GP about it, as he doesn’t want anyone local finding out (we live in a very small community, and both went to school with the receptionist, who is married to one of his friends). Obviously I’ve told him that she can’t tell anyone, that it’s confidential, but he’s really worried about being judged. Does anyone have any ideas?
Thank you
