On a scale of it will be fine to totally fucked how bad it this?

I am 55 years old. I have been complaining of pain for years. But 18 months ago the pain suddenly got worse as in more widespread. I felt ill. The doctor did some blood tests. Nothing came of it.

I continued as I was until Davina McCall did that programme on the menopause. That’s me I thought. Had another phone gp call. But the go said he wanted to rule out arthritis before recommending HRT.

I delayed the blood test until I could get a blood test done with my daughter. We both have disability so kill 2 birds with one stone.

Daughter’s gp rang her last Monday, And advised her course of treatment. As thursday I rang for my results confident nothing heard meant negative. Well Who ever I spoke to told me apart from low Vit D and pain markers up no problem. Great I thought have my holiday and arrange for HRT appoints when I get back.

However , today is our first full day of our holiday and I got a call from a gp at our surgery.

Things are definitely not fine. Blood test shows a protein which indicates bone cancer. I may have to fly back early. Its really urgent. Doctor thinks I will need a bone marrow biopsy and bone scans.

It sounds as though you are having stormy weather of it right now. I'm so sorry you are having to deal with all the admin horror, on top of everything else.

For goodness sake, OP. I’m sorry you’ve got to wait over the weekend.

Rest easy knowing that the doctor has your fight for you, they sound great.

Sounds like you have a good Dr looking out for you though - not the best way to find out someone on the inside has your back

Not happening today. Doc asked did I want him to chase over the weekend. My decision is no, I need to switch off from it, enjoy the weekend without worrying when will the phone ring . And get some bloody sleep!

Wise to try and switch off I think.

I coped over the weekend by cleaning the house. You know the jobs that sit there until you can’t look at them anymore. Got the whole family involved too. We are all incredibly untidy, too many last minute shove it in a bag to to look tidy. So I went through bags. Putting things back in their rightful place, chucking rubbish.

If anyone knew me from the guinea pig section of MN. I had an aww moment. Our last guinea pig made it to 8 years old. I found one of her special biscuits that I swear helped her reach an old age. And I found a more up to date pair of my glasses but inside the case was a guinea pig poo showed DD1 because I knew it would gross her out but it gave me a laugh.

The worry set in last night. I read all your supportive comments. Thank you all so much.

This morning I feel properly scared. DH has had to go into his office. DD1 leaves for her work at midday. So I am hoping I get the news this morning.I’m not alone , I have DD2 , she’s a full time job and the unofficial son-in-law is on a late shift.

Its weird when you hope for a positive dx of MGUS , I mean who actually wants a blood condition but the alternative is painful test and possibly cancer.. definition of being between a rock and a hard place. Will give an update when I have processed the news.
