I am 55 years old. I have been complaining of pain for years. But 18 months ago the pain suddenly got worse as in more widespread. I felt ill. The doctor did some blood tests. Nothing came of it.

I continued as I was until Davina McCall did that programme on the menopause. That’s me I thought. Had another phone gp call. But the go said he wanted to rule out arthritis before recommending HRT.

I delayed the blood test until I could get a blood test done with my daughter. We both have disability so kill 2 birds with one stone.

Daughter’s gp rang her last Monday, And advised her course of treatment. As thursday I rang for my results confident nothing heard meant negative. Well Who ever I spoke to told me apart from low Vit D and pain markers up no problem. Great I thought have my holiday and arrange for HRT appoints when I get back.

However , today is our first full day of our holiday and I got a call from a gp at our surgery.

Things are definitely not fine. Blood test shows a protein which indicates bone cancer. I may have to fly back early. Its really urgent. Doctor thinks I will need a bone marrow biopsy and bone scans.

Oh fuck!

I was lurking on this thread since I first saw it, as my lovely next door neighbour has been living with bone cancer for a few years now.

I'm so pleased your news is better than you feared. What a very stressful time for youThanks

Retrievemysanity · 11/08/2021 13:22

So pleased it was the better of the options Brew

I’m so glad it looks like MGUS, that’s such a relief. Flowers

fortifiedwithtea · 11/08/2021 23:06

Spoke too soon. Got a new letter today back on a urgent 2 week referral to haematology . Waited until after 4pm and rang the surgery. Asked for my results so that I could write them down. Also got a a couple of useful phone numbers.

I pointed out a problem was flagged up two weeks ago and the latest blood test has sort of reset the clock. Effectively it could be month after the first abnormal test before I am seen by the hospital.

Had an evening out with my eldest Dd. I have no worries tonight. I pickled them in a large glass of Merlot.

Can you get to speak with the Dr again fortified? Perhaps the urgent labelling is to confirm MGUS. This is so frustrating for you.

halfhope · 11/08/2021 23:18

Different issue but I had a breast lump once and was automatically put on the urgent pathway even though Dr thought it was probably okay. Might just be protocol?

madroid · 11/08/2021 23:33

The letter might have been one sent after the original referral? So now not relevant?

I found the consultant's secretaries were the fonts of all knowledge and appts. And usually far more helpful than receptionists and sometimes better informed that GP.

Wishing you calm and strength to get through this horrible waiting time (I also thinks it's the worst part). Glad you had an evening out with DD and Merlot :)

Bakewellisntjustacake · 12/08/2021 00:52

The letter may be late?

Weenurse · 16/08/2021 09:58

Any further news?
Thinking of you 💐

fortifiedwithtea · 16/08/2021 17:19

@Weenurse unbelievably no. Still within the second 2ww letter . The letter being written 9th August same day the gp last spoke to me. Meaning the hospital still have one more week to get in touch with me.

I rang the surgery last week and asked for the blood test results be read to me again. Then I explained that issue of the second letter meant overall the hospital had 4 weeks to contact me which really isn’t on. I was then given a few phone numbers to ring but I can’t get through.

Clinging on to the hope that this can’t be another cock up, surely as they are being so tardy that indicates MGUS ONLY.

notapizzaeater · 18/08/2021 13:35

It's all bloody shite ! Hope they get there finger out. If you've run out of cupboards and bags to clean I've loads !

fortifiedwithtea · 18/08/2021 19:07

This I think is the concluding part. Rang the hospital and spoke to the nurse clinician as I was becoming a bit unhinged with the worry.

Its MGUS. Just needs monitoring with regular blood tests. GP will get a letter explaining it all. Gp’s next job is to find a solution to my joint pains and I’ll be good for a while longer.

Thank you for your well wishes and support.Flowers

Wine is needed tonight but we don’t have any. Might settle for a Brew Grin

In a perfect world, I’d have preferred them to find the cause of your pain and cure it immediately.

But I think the important thing is that you’ve had the more favourable result and you know what you are dealing with, which should scatter your worry of the unknown to the four winds.

I wish you well fortifiedwithtea and I hope they can manage your pain so it doesn’t impact on you so heavily.

I will have a coffee alongside you in a toast to happy times.

Blessings to you

Shuffleuplove · 18/08/2021 21:15

That’s good news then, relatively speaking. Sending you very best wishes.

2018SoFarSoGreat · 19/08/2021 03:30

That's much better news. Sorry the pain still needs sorting out, but this is good.

Drink that tea and enjoy it!
