Both my husband and I have the exact bite/mark on our left calf, it came up yesterday morning - I thought it was a heat bump - it now has purple 'bruising' and insanely itchy (I have not scratched at all, just using an antihistamine cream) I have no idea what bit us? I can't really see an entry point either, any idea?

An alien took a sample from you both last night

RestingStitchFace · 27/07/2021 21:22

Looks like a mossie bite to me.

LubaLuca · 27/07/2021 21:22

It looks like horsefly bites that have been scratched. Or advanced syphilis.

Looking at the red patch around it I would be very worried you've had a tick (which drop off when they're full) and maybe it's passed Lyme disease onto you. It is a bacterial infection so can be treated with antibiotics if you catch it early. The doctor can test you to see if it is that. If you don't treat it you can have fatigue for years, even death. Been anywhere you might have picked ticks up recently?

Dodie66 · 27/07/2021 21:29

Looks like a tick bite to me too especially with the red mark around it. You should get it checked out

PieceOfString · 27/07/2021 21:36

Symptoms can take days to weeks to appear so might not be able to see entry point.

A tick bite almost certainly. Get that checked ASAP because if it causes Lyme disease it can be extremely debilitating.

PieceOfString · 27/07/2021 21:37

Not saying it is that mind you but with being aware of and checking it out

I have exactly the same bite in exactly the same place. It has driven me crazy all week (itching and burning). I have also been applying antihistamine cream and it has calmed down a lot now. (Pic attached that I just took after seeing yours 😆). I was bitten by an insect 6 days ago. I felt it bite so I looked. It was a dark, flat insect of some sort. It ended up with a massive headache after the whack I gave it! If it survived at all…

If you've been out walking in woods/fields etc in shorts it could be a tick bite. I always worry when I see walkers with bare legs, I walk my dog every day and always cover up no matter how hot it is. Tick bites can be serious.

Mumteedum · 27/07/2021 23:01

Draw around it so you can see if red swelling grows. Looks like horsefly to me. Mine have previously required serious antibiotics so keep an eye on it. Ice pack will help.

Looks like when I had a horsefly bite. You need antibiotics for that.

It's probably got better since July.
