Passport advice

Just wondering if anyone knows how long passport renewals are taking at the moment? My ds announced yesterday that he had lost his passport but is supposed to be travelling to Italy with a friend on 10 August. I looked at the fast track option but the earliest appointment dates were on 4/5 August (and would not allow a week) so on the advice of the man at the passport office I have applied for a renewal online (up to 10 weeks!!!!). I've since looked again and new slots come up on the fast track option all the time, so I'm now really regretting not doing that. Does anyone know if I can still go down the fast track route having already applied online? Would I just lose my £142? Cant find any advice anywhere - have sent two forms asking them to call and clarify and left a callback message, but nothing. Feeling super stressed and grateful for any advice!!

I just applied for. First passport for infant DD and it took a week! However they haven’t returned our original docs yet - her birth certificate and our marriage certificate - even tho I paid for the tracked return - frustrating!

I applied for infant renewals on 12th July, sent the old passport that same day. They text receipt of old passports on 16th July and only today (11 days later) have they approved the application so now just waiting for them to be dispatched and delivered. So, you may be cutting it very fine (as it's been 15 days so far) unless applications have sped up in the past week.

If your son is old enough to travel by himself, he's old enough to sort this out himself.

You've already helped him (I would say too much) so now it's time to step back. Let him worry about it and contact the passport office if his new passport doesn't arrive promptly.

Worst case scenario if he doesn't get his passport on time, it'll be a learning experience for him.

Thanks - he's 13. Not sure if you have boys, girls or no dc at all but personally I think 13 is quite young to sort out your own passport!

Sorry I assumed he was older! How did he manage to lose his passport?! I wouldn't let a 13yo look after it tbh but then my brothers still lose stuff and we're all adults now.

(I do have kids but they are definitely too young to sort out their own Grin)

Not sure you can fast track a kid's passport.

Can you do a renewal on a lost passport? When I renewed my passport they wouldn't process the application until they had received the old one by post. Apologies if this is something you've already sorted (ie, by ticking the lost/stolen box on the application of there is one)

Do you have a printer/scanner? Is the passport in it? Mine normally is!
