Advice on kitchen lounge diner layout!

Hi, would massively appreciate advice on our kitchen/lounge/diner layout. Planning to extend kitchen by 2 metres so will be 5.7 by 6 metres and to incorporate a small living area (will be small, just a sofa or couple do chairs so can sit and see garden is what we’re after) as well as dining table. Our garden is small but L shaped and wraps round 2 sides of the house, so we want to be able to see both sides of the garden from the seating area (or at least some of it). Have attached 2 photos, one with island and one with peninsula. Not sure either quite work! If anyone could let me know which they prefer (or if you think neither work then also would be useful to know!), or if you’d do anything differently I’d be very grateful!!

Room size isn’t perfect op, but this gives an idea.

Without island

I’d go for the island so you could have stools. Maybe have a smaller sofa and rotate it so it’s facing the window and patio door

I’ve used an app called room planner (it’s a red square with a White House outline in it) you can do some things on it for free.

I’d swap the seating area and table around so put the seating area by the patio doors for looking out more

It looks great but do you need a breakfast bar and stools as well as having a dining table? If it were me I'd rather have a bit more cupboard space

i'd go for the peninsula kitchen from duplocity's first post, but then swap the sofa & dining table. so the sofa could go against the wall between the two doors, and the dining table could go by the windows with a good view of the garden.

that would make the sofa into an informal space for kids to flop down / chat etc. And then the table would have the great views and not be in the way of the patio doors.

There’s loads of apps that let you do this yourself, I liked Home Design 3D. Cost about a fiver.

Try those, then when you’ve got something you think you like, go to kitchen design shop and get them to do a real one - helped me to make sure I was building the right space before I built it.

Like this? There would be more space for a bigger table too.

I would choose an island every time over a peninsula - even if the island meant slightly less storage.

I'd go for a corner sofa rather than sofa and chair.

Are you having wall cupboards? If you can do without them it makes a big difference to the feel of the space. Open shelving would break up the wall a bit if it looks too bare.

Really like Duplocitys third option with island but sofa facing out, and corner sofa is great idea LagneyandCasey. Thanks so much all, this is has helped hugely, off to look at some software apps now!
