GERMANY - Anyone had to email Border Police stating why you need to enter Country if unvaccinated???

16 yr old DS needs to get to Germany soon.

He has has Covid...GP is drafting me a letter to prove he is recovered

We will do a pcr test so will have a certificate

He will stay at home for 14 days prior to flying

BUT they wont let him in because he's not vaccinated!!!! Spoke to German Embassy and Border today.

GP wont vaccinate as only 16 and no underying conditions

So as he's going for sport trial/to play (classed as Elite) last attempt is to email border police at Munich and detail why he needs to travel, attach letter from sports club. It can take around 7-10days.

If he cant go it will shatter him

The authorities in Germany are much more helpful than in the UK IME. Mention to them that you need to know their decision quickly and you'll probably get a reply today.

Is there no chance to get him vaccinated privately in the UK?

The only other alternative I can think of: is entry into Switzerland any easier? He could fly to Basel and then get the train to Munich (takes about 3h) There are no border formalities at the train station - there is a German railway station in Basel (Badisch Bahnhof), there's a direct train.

Covid vaccines are not available privately in the UK.

I had a wee look at the regulations for entry into France/Czech/Switzerland and they're all basically the same as Germany unfortunately.

Would there even be long enough for him to get double jabbed before he goes?

What about, is there anywhere doing walking jabs for under 18s?

If you need a hand with the paperwork for Germany, if it's in German, feel free to give me a PM, I'd be happy to translate. I'd assume you'll be fine emailing in English though.

Nope no private vaccines at all.

Ive got the GP letter to say he has recovered from Covid just waiting for the sports club to send me letter saying he's an Elite athlete etc so I can email and apply. Im not chancing it at all I want to make sure he's there correctly and no come back or in fact he gets refused at Border!!!!

The Munich Border guy I spoke to be lovely, so helpful.

Right next question - best airlines to book with - we may go for 2 days so just hand luggage for us

DS will need to have spots bag in hold

Ive looked at BA and they take 2 bags in hold for DS so that could be ok if no extra charge but there flights are pricey

Lufthansa seem reasonable so may call them to make sure Im getting the right prices - not used to booking online!!!!

Glad to hear you got it sorted! I can heartily recommend not flying Easyjet, whatever you do - they've been cancelling flights between UK and Europe this summer.

And best of luck to your son! It's not FC Bayern he's trying out for is it? [Nosy face]

Ah EJ arent flying at the mo I dont think - I did look at them online and are only allowing you to select March 2022 onwards.

Just need this club letter, get email sent over and wait for acceptance.

Im looking at flights BA might be the best option as the business flight price allows 2 hold bags where as Lufthansa want £68 each way so in the long run not much saving but business flight much more bookable.
