Anyone recommend a kids shampoo for itchy head?

DD (4yo) has been scratching her head for a couple of weeks, (I've checked and checked, definitely no nits!) she is prone to eczema but never on her head before, she seems to have areas of yellow flaky dry skin. It looks like cradle cap, quite big flakes, I don't think it's eczema.

We've been using child's farm for years, but it's clearly not cutting it. I've used DPs head and shoulders on her 3 times now (wash hair twice a week) but she's still scratching.

Anyone know a miracle cure? She's scratching so hard in her sleep that she's breaking the skin Sad

Moo goo was the one that worked for us.

Body shop ginger conditioner. You just need a tiny drop but it has worked wonders for my daughter.

It is also advised to always dry the scalp and not leave it to air dry. Huge difference for her, she used to scratch so much she was in tears, no scratching at all now!

I'd try good old fashioned Vosene. I have very eczema-prone dc, and the scalp itching can be due to an overactive yeast we all carry on our skin which can sometimes go into overdrive (possibly because of all the hot weather). Vosene contains anti-fungals which help.

Nizoral or Selsun (from the pharmacy), and dry it with a hairdryer.

Coal tar shampoo.

Vosene, if that doesn’t work try T-gel then Nizoral

AuditAngel · 26/07/2021 21:44

Also check it’s really well rinsed out

For years I suffered with an itchy head. No nits, flakes or dandruff though! Just incessant itching!

I bought the Balmonds scalp oil and my head stopped itching after one application.

I now use once a week or less.

I get this and end up with scabs on my head.
Johnsons cradle cap baby oil helped some but I noticed that as long as I used a sensitive shampoo it helps.
Been using one made from oat milk atm and it’s helped so much!

I suffer scalp itching. I agree don't leave her with wet hair for long. Don't have too much sugar in her diet (the link between this and head itch I don't get but is definitely there for me). Swap shampoo about every 18 months. I'm currently using the loreal banana one and it's OK. I also used a shampoo bar for a while and that worked too. If you can afford SLS free shampoo even better.

Thank you all, lots of things to try!

I used to use vosene myself, I might even have a part bottle buried somewhere in amongst all the bayliss and harding stuff you inevitably get at Christmas Grin

That's interesting about drying it rather than letting it air dry. I rarely use a hairdryer on her (or me! Curse of curly hair!) but it's worth a try.

I remember coal tar shampoo from when I was little. The smell. Envy

My daughter had a terrible itchy scalp. Body shop ginger shampoo and conditioner were great.

Dentinox shampoo worked very well for us
