Hurt my foot, please tell me I don’t need to go to a&e

Hello,

Went over on ankle (right foot) and when steadying myself I landed funny on my left. It’s been 6 days and it’s getting worse, both pain and now some swelling.

It’s on the top of my foot above my big toe area. Visible lump and hurts to touch. I can bear weight on it but it hurts. Especially hurts to flex toes.

I have a busy job on my feet all day, worrying what they might say if I go to see a doctor. Sad

You need an X-Ray. Sorry

mineofuselessinformation · 26/07/2021 18:02

Look for a walk-in or minor injuries near you that offers x-ray facilities if you don't want to go to A&E.
You need to get it checked.

RagzReturnsRebooted · 26/07/2021 18:03

The risk of permanent damage from ignoring foot/toe injuries (even if it's just the tendon and not a fracture) is not worth it, so it should be checked out as it isn't getting better and there is obvious deformity.

A&E for you.

Call your GP or visit the minor injuries unit if you have one (especially if you can check if they've got x ray facilities beforehand). Your GP can refer you for an x ray appointment, so less waiting.

I did very similar recently, I went to a&e and neither was broken but the doctor needed to x Ray me as they couldn't tell just by looking. I will say that this was about 4 months ago and the 'worst ' ankle (the one I first went over) still hurts and is stiff in the mornings. So you may just have a bad sprain but I really would go and get checked out.

Cattitudes · 26/07/2021 18:08

You might need to go through GP because they can sometimes be a bit iffy about injuries older than 48hrs at a&e, but I would definitely get an xray. I would look for a minor injuries unit, generally much quicker than a&e.

Saintemllionsfinest · 26/07/2021 18:08

Thanks everyone. Where I live it’s just a&e facilities so looks like I’ll be headed there tomorrow. I knew I was in denial 🤦🏻‍♀️ I’ve bought some strapping bandage from the pharmacy so that’s helping it a bit.

It's been a week and still no better, of course you should go. Even more so because you'll do more damage at work.
Do you think they're going to tut at you, or be disparaging? Don't worry!

Cattitudes · 26/07/2021 18:09

Sprains can take longer to heal than a fracture so it might not be broken.
