How much would you expect to pay for this?

We’ve been quoted £560 for the supply and fit of 8 small spotlights in our kitchen. I know it’s ridiculous but how ridiculous are we talking? Thanks.

How long will the job take.?Electricians here charge £250 a day and you have fittings and VAT on top, it soon adds up.

That seems excessive considering I recently paid £1.5 for supply to an outside building plus all sockets, replacement light, supply and replacement garden lights - took 2 days working flat out.

ColonelNobbyNobbs · 26/07/2021 13:02

We got 4 spotlights in living room recently was £150. Although we bought the lights ourselves so just fitting.

ColonelNobbyNobbs · 26/07/2021 13:05

I don’t think the lights were particularly expensive though.

**£1.5k

I don’t think that ridiculous at all. The spotlights will be circa £20ish each so that’s £160 on just the lights. Then you have the other materials and a day and a half of labour.

Sounds about right.

BananaMilkshakeWithCream · 26/07/2021 13:15

Maybe it’s just me then. Considering we had our entire house rewired (2 weeks, 3 bed semi) and that only cost £4k, it just seems like loads. Maybe I’m wrong.

I had eight put in the bathroom and it was about this price.

Orchidflower1 · 26/07/2021 13:20

That seems fairly reasonable to me. Are you having to retube/ rewire. Are you having eco lamps?

dontgobaconmyheart · 26/07/2021 14:05

Depends what is involved to make that happen (existing wiring, ease of access above etc) and to an extent where in the UK you are. What is the cost breakdown?

I sympathise OP because this stuff is so expensive, there are a lot of supply issues these days and tradesman are in high demand so can charge more. I agree it's expensive as an amount but don't necessarily think its ridiculous for what it is.

Always get a few quotes and see how they compare.

BammBamm · 26/07/2021 14:08

Where are you OP?

BananaMilkshakeWithCream · 26/07/2021 14:35

We’re in the South West. Also, it’s being done as part of a new build so it’s not as though the plastering of the ceiling wouldn’t need to be done anyway. Maybe I just need a reality check, or just dig deep if I want those spotlight 😂 💡

To put a bit of perspective on it, I had a new door lock fitted on the front door. The estimate was £100 - charged me £480. Bastards.

ShirleyDab · 26/07/2021 14:40

Meant to say, I'm south west too.
