Should I get my nose pierced (again)

Am toying with this idea again. I had my nose pierced about 4 years ago but had such a major confidence wobble afterwards about it that it was out again within 24 hours. It was weird - I felt so self-conscious, even with DH and DDs and was dreading other people noticing/reacting to it. Although I hadn't discussed it with many people first so perhaps that was a bad approach for someone who dislikes too much attention!

However I've crossed over into 40+ territory now, I feel a bit more confident/rebellious at the moment and probably the pandemic has brought on more of a 'seize the day' mentality... plus my style has changed a bit and I think it would suit my new rock chick vibe. (That sounds so naff but can't think of a better way to describe it 😂)

Help me decide - should I try again, or will I regret it again?!

Get it done.

Take it out if you change your mind.

AlbertBridge · 26/07/2021 12:42

I had mine done (aged 18) and felt the same as you did! No idea why, just felt slightly chavvy.

I’ve toyed with doing it again, but I think I’d feel the same. Some people look amazing with a nose stud but I’m not sure I’m one of them.

Plus, bugger me was it painful.

Mydogisagentleman · 26/07/2021 12:42

Do it.
I love nose piercings, my tiny fairy like DD has a fine silver ring in hers.
My nose is like a pigs snout and it would look awful

Do it! I had mine done a few years ago when I was 40 and I love it

ChunkySloth · 26/07/2021 12:53

Do it. Wgaf what other people think.

ilovetomatoes · 26/07/2021 12:57

Do it. I had one from 16 until 30 when it fell out and I didn’t put it back in. Now over 40 and had it done again a year ago and I love it. I’m senior in a professional job and no one says anything.

Me apparently! I didn't realise just how much until I did it the first time. I don't think my parents even knew about it and I was a bit freaked out about showing them - like I was a teenager or something?! If I do it again I'll warn them in advance this time... so that we're all prepared! Grin

Also what about face masks? Are they problematic at the moment?

And hayfever/allergies - I think (hope) my hayfever is on the way out again but I'm a fairly frequent sneezer generally! Obviously didn't have the thing long enough to experience much nose blowing before so I need reassurance that it's not too uncomfortable if you're a bit sniffly??

Sorry, I meant why give a fuck. I've had mine in since I was 14, i was 40 this year. I dont6even take any notice of it any more, and job has ever said anything about it. If you want it, do it!

WoohooIAmGoingToAGig · 26/07/2021 18:37

I'm 46. I had nose pierced the day I left school at 18. I have a small silver ring in and I've only ever taken it out for job interviews.

I was very alternative in my youth and I'm a teacher/musician now. For context.

I don't think masks would be too much of an issue, as long as you're wearing clean ones, they probably won't even touch it.

I would say if you can find a piercer who has small labret studs to pierce with rather than the more common screw they are so much more comfortable for nose-blowing etc - just a little flat disk on the inside rather than curved wire. You can't really pull out a labret by accident either, whereas I regularly woke up with screws missing

Holothane · 26/07/2021 18:49

I’ve not long had mine redone with a labret , love it so much easier to than a twisty one.

wheresmyhairytoe · 26/07/2021 18:51

Do it!

I bloody love mine, my favourite of all my piercings. DH doesn't like it but it's not his nose.

ISpeakJive · 26/07/2021 18:55

I had my first ever nose piercing at the age of 43! I’ve wanted to do it all my life and kept delaying it.
I absolutely love it. Go for it!!!

Googlewasmyidea1 · 26/07/2021 18:59

Had mine done at 47 last year, they pierced it with a black ring which I hated as I wanted subtle. Persevered and now have either a small diamond stud or a small silver ring

yellowDahlia · 26/07/2021 22:41

Ooh lots of encouragement and good advice - thanks all! Will check out the labret option, that sounds good.

@ISpeakJive I'm 43 as well! and yes I'm thinking the time is right to give it a proper go this time.

I asked my DDs tonight when we were out for a walk and they said I should do it too Smile

Word of warning if you're a bit of a twat like me - don't do the labret if you're likely to forget you've got the piercing and get it caught when rubbing your eyes/washing your face if you wear rings.

I've had mine pierced a year now and still pull the fucker out when I don't think to avoid it, even though I now have a teeny stud in it. I think if I had a labret in mine I'd have ripped my nostril by now.

  1. I have my nose pierced, many ear piercings including a scaffold and 8mm stretches in both ears. Until very recently I also had a lip ring which I took out as I kind of figured I was perhaps pushing it a bit with that.

Life is far too short to worry about what other people think. Go for it.

And yy to those saying life is too short to worry about what others think - although I'm a people pleaser, the older I get the more often I'm saying Sod it and doing what I want!

So I think I'll go for it, and as PPs have also pointed out - if I don't like it (again) I can remove it (again!)

Thanks for the support and advice MNers Smile

I have both sides of my nose pierced and wear captive bead rings in each side. Very visible. I'm 45 and work in a professional role. I get a lot of compliments on them from people in the office.

Do it, do it, do it!

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 27/07/2021 19:00

Do it! I had mine done at 18 but lost it when away in holiday and couldn’t get a replacement and it healed up. This was after having had it in for two years.
Dd has just hers done and it looks fab. It’s all a big different now (I’m 45) and a lot more expensive. She’s had a very fine and small
Silver ring put in. It suits her slightly alternative look.
I think of you have an alternative/rock chick look it looks fab. If you’re a bit more trackies and trainers it can look tacky. Blush

TheBodyPiercer · 27/07/2021 19:00

Do it. In my experience nose piercings suit everyone!

Get it done with an internally threaded labret and you'll have lots of choice included delicate attachments if you want something more discreet.
