Help me solve a mystery!

Last weekend, we had some building work done and afterwards, me and DH were tidying up and found a phone in a bucket of rubble.

The phone didn't belong to either of us so we asked all of the workmen if it belonged to them. Nope. We've asked neighbours, also nope.

So now we are stumped and really need to know how this mystery, ownerless phone ended up in our house.

We've charged it up but it's locked.

How can I get into it? It's a cheapo phone (Google 785 or something) running android but it's locked.

So here I am, turning to your wisdom MN. How can I get this mutha open and find out who's phone this is?

Or is there another way to find out that I'm not thinking of?

Bring it into a second hand/phone repair shop and they will get into it for you.

Oh, and just to anticipate any questions, it's definitely not DH's secret affair phone. He's as keen as I am to find out where it's come from.

Take the sim out and try it in another phone? If it's a handset lock then you should be able to see anything stored on the sim in another phone.

I'm sure you've already looked and it's not there, but just in case - is there anything on the lock screen that looks like it will take you to an 'emergency information' screen?

@WeatherwaxLives no, only an 'emergency calls only' option, unfortunately.

@FloofyCushion,thats a really good idea. There is a sim in it so I'll dig out and charge up an old phone to try it in that. Don't want to risk taking the sim out of my own phone, just in case I somehow break it.

What happens if you tap that? Mine looks a bit forbidding, but doesn't immediately call a swat team if you press it, despite appearances!

Similar @WeatherwaxLives basically just brings up a key pad to make a call. But nothing else. No facial recognition bit like yours but I think this is a very basic phone.

I looked it up and you can get one for £20 on ebay.

So on mine, if you tap 'emergency' next to the zero, it takes you to a different keypad to make an emergency call, and there's another bit you can hardly read that says emergency information.

I really hope I never get hit by a bus, I can't imagine anyone figuring it out in the heat of the moment!
