7yo (nearly 8) DD has stayed overnight with my parents since she was 8 weeks old. Usually once per month. She has her 9wn room there- loads of toys,etc. She has spent loads of time with them and they have a close relationship. We obviously stopped sleepovers during lockdown but have been trying to get back into this routine more recently.
We've done it twice so far and each time had tears/drama (she wants to come home). She has stayed both times previously as the tears have come at bedtime and we've tended to be out anyway. She has gotten over it on both occasions.
Today, she was in bits at drop off so we gave in and brought her home. I suspect we've just made the situation worse but she was upset which wasn't nice and whilst they didn't show it it was upsetting to my parents too. They see her lots and have done whenever rules have allowed. She's quite happy to go with then for days out / days at theirs, etc She was there tonight as they are looking after her tomorrow. We didn't have firm plans so were able to bring her home. They still will look after her tomorrow but it'll be more of a faff and disruptive for me and DH's work schedules.
Any tips for helping her to get over this?
