Feeling so upset from medical advice, slightly graphic

I had a telephone consultation with a GP on Thursday because I have anal fissures that have returned but the Lactulose isn't working and I have so much impactation I just can't shift now for days. It's like the stuff itself is WIDER than my own bottom Blush

It was a locum I spoke to

I explained that I was concerned because I simply couldn't go, but I have no urge to really push? It's absolutely disgusting, I'm sorry, but I have to push on the bottom of my vaginal wall to encourage anything out. But even that isn't working at the moment, and whatever is there is bulging into my vagina?!

He said constipation is common in pregnancy. When I said that I couldn't 'go' unaided with my fingers pushing down, he said he'd never heard of that before but to not do it! He gave me a lecture about it causing a UTI and that can be harmful for babies (I'm on iron tablets and a whole host of meds for extreme sickness, that coupled with not a great diet due to sickness means I'm very constipated anyway).

He said his advice was to up the dose of Lactulose and that should work. He said he doubts I'd need to call back as that should fix it

But I've done as he's said. And it's now Sunday and I feel like there's a head crowning. I'm sorry to be graphic again but whatever's there is far far larger than my bottom hole and I can't can't can't get it out. It feels horrendous. Plus every time I try my fissures are bleeding a lot and so sore

What should I do? Is he right or was he insensitive? My GP surgery is usually fantastic by the way!

GTN cream cured my fissure, but not sure if you can use it in pregnancy.

peridito · 25/07/2021 20:50

Thanks again everyone Thanks

Been seen in A&E and on a bed. I've made a tear from my Anus to my actual bum cheek!!!

I've been given some gas and air. Feeling so annoyed! Argh, who knew?! Constipation is bloody dangerous sometimes

Taxi and bed after this, think they're allowing me out afterwards

Sorry - not had the chance to read the whole thread. Your dr is wrong about one thing for sure. If you have a prolapse it can cause issues with pooing. They actually recommend putting a finger/thumb inside your vagina to support the wall back into shape and encourage the poo out - it even has a name - splinting.

marthasmum · 25/07/2021 21:03

You’ve done right for going in OP. Do you need stitches? Wincing for you, hope the gas and air is good and you get home safe soon.

AnyFucker · 25/07/2021 21:11

Glad you have been seen. That Gp sounds like he needs some more training.

Cerebelle · 25/07/2021 21:23

What a horrible way to spend your evening. Hope they can sort you out as much as possible. Flowers

MyGrassIsBrowner · 25/07/2021 21:31

You poor soul, not much Is more painful
Glad you went to a&e, hope they sort you out. Def go with feet up, my son has suffered constipation for years sounds horrific what you’re going through.
Hope a&e take good care of you and you manage to rest at home in comfort soon.

VimFuego101 · 25/07/2021 21:53

You poor, poor thing. The original doctor sounds rubbish - putting your finger on your vaginal wall while pushing is very common, and I think is the recommended approach if you have a rectocele or similar. I hope the hospital sort you out.

30degreesandmeltinghere · 25/07/2021 21:54

Came on say regarding the unsupportive posters tell them you don't give a shit..
But now actually tell them to buggar off and shit happens!!
Congratulations on the 'birth' of your big poo op!!
Hope you get better soon!!

CrouchEndTiger12 · 25/07/2021 22:10

Ditch the iron tablets and see if they will give you an infusion.

Gosh that sounds like a nightmare. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

WildRunner · 25/07/2021 22:16

Complete aside, but I am utterly horrified that women are supposed to put up with things like this as a "side effect" of pregnancy and childbirth. I've been through neither but I can still have a shred of empathy - why the hell can't the medical profession?

Souther · 25/07/2021 22:23

I'm sorry to hear you ended up in hospital with such an injury.

Hopefully you'll be home soon.

StillMedusa · 25/07/2021 22:25

Glad it's out.. but poor you!!!
I've had fissures and have permanent bowel problems (thanks kids!), and I would say you need to have a) Movicol or Laxido every day (safe in pregnancy..dd2 has just had a baby and had to take it throughout) with glycerine suppositories (can buy from Morrisons don't even need a chemist) and some enemas for back up just in case.

I hope you feel much better soon, and have a better rest of pregnancy :)

HarveySpectorWins · 25/07/2021 22:37

Oh no poor you, I feel pain for you even just thinking about it! Hope you get sorted out quickly in A & E Thanks

Needapoodle · 25/07/2021 23:03

I'm glad it's getting sorted op - it sounds horrific and yes it's scandalous that women are expected to just put up with this kind of thing.

Badabingbadabum · 25/07/2021 23:06

Oh, poor you OP. I had awful constipation with dd1 and when I did finally poo it was like a trial run for giving birth!

I drank fybogel religiously after that and had no more problems.

Also, what the GP said about never hearing anyone say they have to push against the vaginal wall to ease out the poo - you will read on here alone about lots of women who have to do this. If latulose isn't working for you then you need to try something else. I hope yoyr GP is more helpful next time Flowers
