Feeling so upset from medical advice, slightly graphic

I had a telephone consultation with a GP on Thursday because I have anal fissures that have returned but the Lactulose isn't working and I have so much impactation I just can't shift now for days. It's like the stuff itself is WIDER than my own bottom Blush

It was a locum I spoke to

I explained that I was concerned because I simply couldn't go, but I have no urge to really push? It's absolutely disgusting, I'm sorry, but I have to push on the bottom of my vaginal wall to encourage anything out. But even that isn't working at the moment, and whatever is there is bulging into my vagina?!

He said constipation is common in pregnancy. When I said that I couldn't 'go' unaided with my fingers pushing down, he said he'd never heard of that before but to not do it! He gave me a lecture about it causing a UTI and that can be harmful for babies (I'm on iron tablets and a whole host of meds for extreme sickness, that coupled with not a great diet due to sickness means I'm very constipated anyway).

He said his advice was to up the dose of Lactulose and that should work. He said he doubts I'd need to call back as that should fix it

But I've done as he's said. And it's now Sunday and I feel like there's a head crowning. I'm sorry to be graphic again but whatever's there is far far larger than my bottom hole and I can't can't can't get it out. It feels horrendous. Plus every time I try my fissures are bleeding a lot and so sore

What should I do? Is he right or was he insensitive? My GP surgery is usually fantastic by the way!

Oh XForL I hope you manage to get it sorted

Sending you a handhold

waterjungle · 25/07/2021 19:27

I knew you were going to say Ondansetron! It is well known for doing that which is the last thing you need if you have Hyperemesis. I was so worried when I was on it I was slamming prunes juice like I was a teenager doing shots in Kavos.
I hope they sort you out in hospital.

WetWeekends · 25/07/2021 19:29

Definitely hospital OP. At least you’ve got the worst bit out of the way without a nurse having to help you manually. I’d be worried about infection if you didn’t get that sorted urgently. It sounds so sore Flowers

It’s called splinting and lots of women have to do it. A friend was constantly in and out of hospital with fissures and it wasn’t until she went to st marks (a hospital that specialises in bowel problems) they were finally able to treat it fully and long term.

Arsebucket · 25/07/2021 19:32

@XForL

Thank you Thanks

Think I might head up to hospital now. I've had a bath and everything, just gone to check (again), and it's now oozing orangey yellow gunk (sorry, tmi but it isn't poop)

So frustrating as I constantly feel so dizzy and weak anyway Sad I have very difficult pregnancy sickness. I was even vomiting in labour with my son

I can totally relate. My first pregnancy 19 years ago they wouldn’t give me any anti sickness, everyone kept fobbing me off - I was still being sick on the operating table during my section.

Ondansetron is the devil for constipation but in my last pregnancy it gave me a ‘normal’ life.

Please do just drink a few sachets of movicol or laxido everyday.

It’s perfectly safe and you won’t get in this situation again Flowers

Reallybadidea · 25/07/2021 19:35

I'm wincing so much for you, it sounds so painful. I think going to A&E is definitely the right thing to do Flowers

Gerwurtztraminer · 25/07/2021 19:35

Could the tear you can see be a large haemorrhoid? You can push internal ones completely out and they look horrific. Have another tepid/cool bath or just sit in a bowl of cool (not warm, not cold) water with help shrink it. This was the advice I got many years ago Blush. If you have some decent H-cream on hand slather that on tonight and hopefully that will help a bit.

Longer term, if the medical lot are not helpful and if you can't use glycerin suppositories I'd recommend getting a home enema kit - all you need is warm water though caffeine makes everything move even quicker.

marthasmum · 25/07/2021 19:36

Oh OP you poor thing. And well done, I can appreciate how painful this must have been. It once took me about three hours to pass a massive poo, I’m not joking. Labour isn’t the half of it sometimes is it? I’m another one saying please get yourself to hospital and get it checked, it may prevent it getting infected and possibly bump you up the system for review of the fissures etc?

ApolloandDaphne · 25/07/2021 19:37

Oh my OP. That sounds terrible. Please go and get yourself checked out.

Wallywobbles · 25/07/2021 19:38

Hospital now. Can't believe you waited so long. It sounds like you are going to end up with stitches.

Ukholidaysaregreat · 25/07/2021 19:45

Hi OP hope you are feeling o.k now. Maybe hospital to get checked tonight or tomorrow. Glad you managed to pass the mega poo! Flowers

DogsSausages · 25/07/2021 19:52

Dont go poking about trying to push piles back in, the hospital will sort you out, the liquid might be melted suppositories mixed in with everything else so just bet yourself checked out.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 25/07/2021 19:56

Oh you poor thing. At least the blockages is out but you MUST start taking something to prevent it happening again, talk to the GP,or hospital of you go tonight (which I would to get your tear looked at)

Well doneFlowers

Hyppogriff · 25/07/2021 19:58

Gosh you poor thing !!!! When I was pregnant I had quite bad constipation - I drank peppermint tea daily and it did help a bit. Lots of soft fruits and juice and water water water to keep everything soft and daily pulses and lots of wholemeal should help

Neondisco · 25/07/2021 19:59

I've had a fissure and piles from dihorrea and constipation related to different meds. So I feel your pain although only slightly
Sending love op this sounds awful. I'd def get checked out.

LadyLolaRuben · 25/07/2021 20:04

You've got the immediate and messy bit over with OP. Now you need checking over and a plan going forward to stop it happening again. The orange oozing stuff doesn't sound great. Get yourself checked out and treated Flowers Let us know how you get on x

Rainallnight · 25/07/2021 20:08

Poor you, OP. Let us know how you get on in hospital

MyGrassIsBrowner · 25/07/2021 20:10

Definitely a trip to the hospital lovely. I hope you get sorted you poor sod. I remember being in your situation. My first PP poo was genuinely worse than my labour.. it's horrific! X

Ilikechips · 25/07/2021 20:10

Did a little cheer when I read you had managed to go, I know that relief 😂. Pleased you’ve got the hard bit (excuse the pun) out the way. Sounds like you’re in a right state. No one will judge you for going to the hospital, I was seen on maternity assessment for bleeding piles in my first pregnancy. They really do see it all. Pleased you’ve got some relief x

OrlandointheWilderness · 25/07/2021 20:14

Oh that sounds awful. Well done on that bit - but I reckon a&e now to get checked. You don't want that to get infected.

RedBonnet · 25/07/2021 20:16

For future reference ask for some different iron. Iron does make you constipated. I use spa tone. Take more lactolose with iron, max dose for pregnancy

notapizzaeater · 25/07/2021 20:19

Honestly go to the hospital, you may need more treatment 😢

CormoranStrike · 25/07/2021 20:21

Glycerine suppositories are a godsend in these circs, you can order from Amazon prime for next days delivery

Gregwiggle · 25/07/2021 20:27

Poor you OP. Hope you get it sorted ASAP. I can relate to the rectocele and pushing on vaginal walls.

Also I personally agree that this is only slightly graphic!

Notavegan · 25/07/2021 20:38

Oh you poor thing. I hope they can give something to help.
