Feeling so upset from medical advice, slightly graphic

I had a telephone consultation with a GP on Thursday because I have anal fissures that have returned but the Lactulose isn't working and I have so much impactation I just can't shift now for days. It's like the stuff itself is WIDER than my own bottom Blush

It was a locum I spoke to

I explained that I was concerned because I simply couldn't go, but I have no urge to really push? It's absolutely disgusting, I'm sorry, but I have to push on the bottom of my vaginal wall to encourage anything out. But even that isn't working at the moment, and whatever is there is bulging into my vagina?!

He said constipation is common in pregnancy. When I said that I couldn't 'go' unaided with my fingers pushing down, he said he'd never heard of that before but to not do it! He gave me a lecture about it causing a UTI and that can be harmful for babies (I'm on iron tablets and a whole host of meds for extreme sickness, that coupled with not a great diet due to sickness means I'm very constipated anyway).

He said his advice was to up the dose of Lactulose and that should work. He said he doubts I'd need to call back as that should fix it

But I've done as he's said. And it's now Sunday and I feel like there's a head crowning. I'm sorry to be graphic again but whatever's there is far far larger than my bottom hole and I can't can't can't get it out. It feels horrendous. Plus every time I try my fissures are bleeding a lot and so sore

What should I do? Is he right or was he insensitive? My GP surgery is usually fantastic by the way!

Well, OP needs to and others are happy to help her. If you're so sensitive, don't click on graphic threads!

Oh christ Ondansetron.

I took that from 6 weeks until birth. I was puking 20 times a day without it.

I had to drink 5 sachets of movicol or laxido a day just to keep things moving.

Drinking that shit for 8 months almost finished me off.

I had a few days where I just couldn’t drink it.
And I ended up like you.

I sat on the loo for 6 hours, remembering a story about Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown being bunged up from too much crack and having to help each other out with teaspoons. I was seriously eyeing up the cutlery draw at 4am.

Thank fully it came out in the end.

But i never skipped a day of movicol again.

I am so so sorry that you're having to go through this. We women have to put up with so much of this. I hope you can find a properly qualified doctor who understands the issue and can help you with it.

Latex gloves and lube up with vaseline or olive oil. Try and squat over a potty if you have one. Deep breaths and be patient. You poor thing Flowers good luck x

RuthTopp · 25/07/2021 17:49

There was a thread a little like this some time ago. Someone suggested getting newspaper / some form of floor covering for the bathroom and squatting as if you'd been caught out whilst out .
She came back to say that really helped. ( When you think about it , that probably is the position used by our ancestors from way , way back )
Whatever you do , good luck !

picklemewalnuts · 25/07/2021 17:50

Get gloves, then
Try pushing it further up- it's the dry end that is causing the problem. Push it back in, then bear down a little while holding it back with that finger. The softer stuff will come past.

However be aware, you can feel really faint and light headed after a major motion! There's a nerve, the vagus (?), that gets affected. Ideally you want someone around you can call if you feel faint.

I had to go back to bed and sleep, I was exhausted and a bit shocked. Sad

picklemewalnuts · 25/07/2021 17:51

And future knowledge- drink more water than you think you need. Eat prunes. Every day.
Caffeine is also really helpful for keeping things moving.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 25/07/2021 17:51

Sugar free sweets, the ones at the Aldi checkout, worked for me. Gave me the opposite problem but cleared everything out

The nicest chocolate ever is the sugar free stiff from Aldi. Unfortunately🤢

BungleandGeorge · 25/07/2021 17:51

A pharmacist can’t help you or sell you anything else because you’re pregnant and there’s a risk of triggering contractions. You need to see a Dr. How long have you not been for now? It sounds like you have a hard impaction low down and giving laxatives is very unlikely to shift that, you’ll just get liquid stools backed up behind it. Is it the pain of the anal fissures that’s stopping you from pushing the stool out? I can’t blame you, they are really sore!

I'm so sorry you went through that but your post properly made me laugh Grin

Oh dear god don't do that.

They are full if sorbitol which will make you very sick

Quirrelsotherface · 25/07/2021 17:56

Oh you poor, poor thing. This has reminded me of a story a friend who after birth had a similar situation where she had to get in the bath and basically birth a poo that was in her words, as wide as a coke can. I can totally understand why you would be reluctant given that you're pregnant and because of the fissures, which are fucking painful beyond words.

If I were you I would be heading to A&E

I have to have a colonoscopy soon and I’m not scared because nothing can be worse than that night.

Clicked on the thread that said 'graphic' I'm the title though didn't you mate?

Giggorata · 25/07/2021 18:00

The medical advice upthread of glycerin suppositories and an enema seem best, but I also remember my sister being constantly constipated and she got good results with the hard dry stool at the entrance, using small chips of pure soap and letting her body heat melt them and soften the stool, also providing lubricant.

ThatsNotMyReindeer · 25/07/2021 18:00

The lack of sensation is concerning, I'd be calling 111 and getting a call back from the clinical assessment team at the very least.

Thinking productive thoughts OP 💩

BungleandGeorge · 25/07/2021 18:01

You really do need medical advice for anything apart from the natural methods of variations of pushing it out!

Chatterboxy · 25/07/2021 18:03

You poor love. You sound completely impacted, you could try a couple of Dulcolax suppositories, they make your bowel contract, which regular glycerin don’t, although it can take a couple of hours, but they are good…. I’ve had to use them in the past. Failing that, I think you should go to A&E. you must be sooo uncomfortable. Good luck

WetWeekends · 25/07/2021 18:06

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor

Glycerine suppositories and lots of Vaseline and a pair of medical gloves. Good luck!

Moving forward ,talk to the GP about taking something like Movicol and drink LOTS of water.

This is exactly what I was going to say. Glycerin suppositories are the only thing that can help when you’re in that kind of situation, other than an actual enema. To stop it happening again though I agree with taking Movicol daily. In my first pregnancy I ended up in a right state. In my second pregnancy I took Movicol all the way through and it was fine.

Oh God I'm sorry,I hope it's not too traumatic Flowers
After your description of Whitney and Bobby I don't think I'll ever be able to look at a tea spoon in the same way again !;

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 25/07/2021 18:10

Immaculatemisconception · 25/07/2021 18:12

@AnyFucker

You sound impacted. Further medical assistance is needed.

Thunderface · 25/07/2021 18:14

I got terrible constipation in pregnancy. I had awful morning sickness and wasn t eating or drinking properly.
The doctor prescribed me a glycerine enema to administer at home. It worked like magic.

CasaBonita · 25/07/2021 18:20

Glycerine suppositories which have already been mentioned a lot! If it's really to come out then these will almost certainly help it on its way.

Go now before the shops all shut!

XForL · 25/07/2021 18:22

From what I've read, you can't take glycerin suppositories before 12 weeks
