7 week old sleep stuck.

Have posted in sleep also.

Just woke up and my seven week old had legs stuck in bars of cot. He had moved so much from the centre of cot( with feet to bottom). He tends to get on his side in the night.

Please tell me someone else’s DC has done this.

Not sure how to stop it it was to happen again. Thought sleeping bag but bedroom is very very hot currently.

Have you tried a cot bumper?

I remember reading on here a while back that they are not popular now, dangerous or something for a little baby. However I doubt a cot bumper would be dangerous to a ten month old and it would stop him getting legs stuck between the cot bars.

TrashKitten10 · 25/07/2021 03:38

@Maggiesfarm The OP clearly states their baby is 7 weeks, not 10 months. Cot bumpers are not popular now as they have been proven to have caused deaths in infants and would be an unsafe choice even for a 10 month old.

OP my DD was in a side cot without bars so we didn't have this problem. I'm surprised they're moving around so much at such a young age though! Do you have a Moses basket or anything else they could sleep in? Is the cot close to you so you can keep an eye in the night and readjust them if they're moving about?

No haven’t tried cot bumper as increased risk of SIDS with them even the mesh ones.

Cot is right next to to me but not flushed to my bed due to layout of room.

Could maybe get a Moses basket but he is quite long so not sure how long he would fit in one.

Yes he moves around loads - he rolled over at three weeks 😬.

I'm so sorry, I don't know where I got the idea he was ten months old. I must have been reading another thread and confused the two. I can see you say "seven weeks" in the title.

In that case, no cot bumper. Forget I suggested it.

steppemum · 25/07/2021 05:37

you can get sleeping bags that are just one layer of cotton fabric.
If you put him in that in a vest he will be fine.

It is quite common, and worth remembering that while it isn't nice to be stuck, he won't actually hurt himself, just be uncomfortable and probably wake himself up

Poppop4 · 25/07/2021 05:39

You can try a sleeping bag if he’s the correct weight for one. I got a very thin one for my DD in the summer months, it was like a cotton sheet and if it was very hot she just wore a nappy underneath it.
I ended up buying a mesh cot bumper for her too though because she used to get her arms stuck but I didn’t get that until she was around 6 months old when she could roll confidently and sit up unaided.

Soubriquet · 25/07/2021 05:47

I used a summer sleeping bag. My dc wouldn’t sleep unless they had their sleeping bag on as it was part of their routine

CallMeRisley · 25/07/2021 06:03

You can get baby sleeping bags as light as 0.2 tog- they are basically thinner than a pillow case. My 4 month old is currently in a 0.5 tog one.

Kinsters · 25/07/2021 06:53

I live near the equator and DD has been in a sleeping bag since she met the weight requirements. Room is normally between 23 and 25° and she sleeps in a 1 tog bag with long pyjamas underneath. If the rooms hotter you could go down to 0.5 tog and short pyjamas/vest.

Lemonsandlemonade · 25/07/2021 08:48

Thanks all I will get a low tog sleeping bag.

Just got a bit freaked out last night 🙈
