Anyone else having a bad experience with them recently? For a month now we’ve had at least one ingredient missing every week.

Yes I have to the point we didn't have a delivery at all and when I rang they had a problem but couldn't tell me when it would be delivered or even if it would at all. So I wanted to cancel and get a refund which they wouldn't do. I canceled my account with them as I was so disappointed with how they behaved and how they handled the situation. I went with gusto meals instead. They thought giving me 7.50 credit as compo was enough.

Lou573 · 24/07/2021 20:34

Yes, I’ve cancelled now. The whole point is to make life easier but I find myself not able to make the meals due to missing ingredients and once really brown horrible green beans. They credit my account for what the ingredient would cost but I don’t want to have to go to the shop for it, I just want to be able to cook the meal when we finally manage to get the kids to bed! Has Gousto been better?

They have for me for the time being but I've only had 2 weeks of then. So I waiting and seeing. What I'm half considering is actually using the recipes and buying the ingredients myself but when summer over and I've not got time for big shopping trips that is what's put me off.

fallingagain · 24/07/2021 22:33

I cancelled mine recently, I did have missing things sometimes, but the main reason was that I was finding all the meals a bit samey. But I am vegetarian so less choice admittedly.

DillonPanthersTexas · 24/07/2021 22:36

Took them up on a trial offer and then cancelled after a few weeks. The meals I thought were very stripped down to the point of being Fisher Price level and the amount of packaging per box was completely unjustified IMO.

beenbotheringme · 24/07/2021 22:41

Yes awful. Loads of stuff missing and rotten chicken on 2 occasions. The compensation is derisory against the price you are paying.

beenbotheringme · 24/07/2021 22:42

Also the food always has a really short date.

Passthecake30 · 24/07/2021 22:43

I quit after awful fish smelling chicken on a couple of occasions. Airing it, as recommended, didn’t help, it was awful.

Pinkflipflop85 · 24/07/2021 22:43

Missing items, ropey veg and really short dates on the food.

Not impressed at the moment.

SkankingMopoke · 24/07/2021 22:43

This week was ok, but the previous 3 weeks had missing ingredients. I've also now cancelled as the recipes have become very same-y, and the whole point is having some easy meals on our busy evenings. Having to run to co-op for mushrooms defeats the object of paying through the nose for easy 20min meals.

SummerBreeze1980 · 24/07/2021 22:48

I've not had a problem but only get them about once a month and vegetarian. I use Gusto sometimes too - had a few rotten veg with them and find they use more packaging (like each egg is individually packaged). Also the meals are often very basic things I could cook with ingredients I already have so on balance I think I prefer Hello Fresh.

almahart · 24/07/2021 22:51

I've had rotten chicken twice too now. On my second trial box, won't bother again

almahart · 24/07/2021 22:53

Just remembered I also had something missing and rotten spinach this week.

SoundBar · 24/07/2021 23:01

First box this week. Rotten lettuce and spinach packs. Chicken was lovely though and recipes quite nice. I've got 4 weeks discount so will see if next week any better

Lou573 · 24/07/2021 23:03

I’m vegetarian and have quite enjoyed the recipes.
But missing ingredients every week without fail is just shocking, quality control has gone wrong somewhere!

Incorrect nutritional info on multiple items and meal cards - DD has type 1 diabetes so carb info is used to calculate insulin dose. Consequences can be very serious if you get it wrong.

I contacted them (which was not easy) after a pretty scary evening and they just didn't take it seriously. Cancelled. I prefer DD alive and well.

gogohm · 24/07/2021 23:22

I switched to Morrison's fresh, less choice but cheaper

TellMeDinosaurFacts · 24/07/2021 23:26

Yes- we've used them for a couple of years and to begin with missing items were vanishingly rare. Now, we just wait to see what's going to be missing this week- more commonly than not there's something not there. Often it's one or two of the recipe cards, which is less annoying than ingredients but still shoddy. Not had issues with anything being off or rotten though.

Laufeythejust · 24/07/2021 23:47

We stopped using them because it was either something missing or poor quality veg- the spring onions are always particularly sad. It’s annoying too how more and more things seem to be premium meals. The meals were delicious but it’s expensive and for the price you are paying for it to be hassle free which, until they iron out the issues, it definitely isn’t!

Passmethecrisps · 24/07/2021 23:47

We have used hello fresh and Gousto and while Gousto isn’t perfect it is considerably better than hello fresh.

Having paused hello fresh for some time we restarted last year - the box was an absolute mess. Random ingredients and wrong recipe cards. The box was really badly packed with herbs on the bottom meaning that they were complete mush by the time we got them.

We gave them another go recently and it was no better - recipes also limited and samey.

aiwblam · 25/07/2021 01:32

We have hello fresh.

Mouldy stuff (green beans and spinach this week)
Missing or incorrect items (including chicken!)
Can’t be bothered to include recipe cards
Great tasting meals, great to learn cooking skills
Really fucking annoying to keep replacing missing or mouldy stuff.
Such a shame - fantastic idea.
Customer services rubbish. I paused a week and the app wanted to know why. I put that I was tired of having issues with incomplete/mouldy stuff. They didn’t even contact me about it.

Anordinarymum · 25/07/2021 04:22

We started using them recently and initially the quality of the ingredients was good. As time has gone along they have sent the wrong menus, items have been missed and the chicken was not fresh. Also some of the menus are not correct in small ways leading to confusion about amounts used.
We are not as amazed as we were.

Kinsters · 25/07/2021 06:02

My sister uses gousto and used to love it but said lately the recipes have been really samey and boring.

awjebdh · 25/07/2021 06:20

I used hello fresh and loved it at first but then became really disappointed with the missing/damaged items and then one week the box just didn't turn up at all. We switched to Gusto and have actually found it much better. Here is my referral code if anyone would like a discount, 60% off first box and then 30% off all boxes for the rest of the month.

Lanaa · 25/07/2021 06:49

Like everyone else we have cancelled. The boxes are often a day or so late, and when they arrive the veg is always past it's best. I initially got them when I was shielding last year, but there was always a missing ingredient or two and on one occasion they didn't even include the recipe cards.

I'm not sure if we're gluttons, but I found the portions ridiculously small too.
