Beautiful things for Bedrooms.

What beautiful (and calming) things do you have in your bedroom to make it a relaxing place to sleep please?

Currently redoing ours and need some ideas.

Was thinking of adding a pot plant in there and possibly some new bedding.

Beautifully coloured walls. We have a Crown green one from their heritage range. White or anything off-white is so clinical and the opposite of relaxing.

VERY good window covers. I need darkness. A dark room will allow you to sleep better. If you're like my DH and need light to wake up maybe you could invest in automatic blinds

YelloYelloYello · 24/07/2021 12:43

Dusky coloured walls.
Natural fabrics for bedding.
Layers of lighting (soft, low lighting in different areas as well as stronger lighting for when you need to get dressed etc).
Lavender oil burner/diffuser.

@Galassia that is already a very large tick!

@mrsbyers awesome thanks, we have one downstairs but I may move it up to the bedroom - any oils you particularly like?

@Bryonyshcmyony see above!

@DappledThings thanks, we are thinking of a dusky blue but just trying to get hold of someone to redecorate (the walls are in an awful state so need to be replastered).

@grey12 we are adding black out curtains on top of the blinds (going to hang them later I think)

@YelloYelloYello very nice idea about the light - we have a few versions if I bring up the essential oil burner, plus ordering a bedside light and we have the over head light (perhaps we can add a dimmer to this if it's easy!) Struggling with bedding - was thinking of organic cotton but not sure how long it will last and can't afford to keep replacing.

I’m in the same boat trying to choose bedding at the moment. I’m leaning towards hemp because it supposedly lasts a long time and gets softer with each wash.

Miyuki · 24/07/2021 13:05

I read a Guardian piece by Annalisa Barbieri a couple of weeks ago that suggested Muji for storage for paperwork (the important health and home related bits we keep; quite good a binning everything else) the link is here I've ordered some of the A4 storage boxes for the cupboards for those bits.

Really need to go through the 39823040238 million throws we've acquired (and also all the second-hand bedding we were given) and organise a donation to the refuge.

Will look into the hemp bedding - thanks!

One thing I would love if I could get a house (Sad) was bigger bedside tables. When you put a nice light, a glass of water, your phone, it starts adding up and looking cluttered and falling over Confused

I have a super soft cotton throw (looks like a wool blanket but isn't, is the best description I can give Grin) from Laura Ashley that is the most fantastic thing! Perfect for naps or for when the duvet is too hot

roguetomato · 24/07/2021 13:07

Lovely lightings and complete darkness once lights off. Lovely scent.

annie335 · 24/07/2021 13:14

I've just redecorated mine with Dulux Tranquil Dawn and I love it! Very calming colour.

Agree with this. It's the one room in our house that is quite minimalistic and is always tidy (helped by a full wall length wardrobe which is where the crap is hidden Grin). Feels like a proper calm sanctuary.

@grey12 a layered bedside table (or a thin shelf above your current bedside table) might help with this. Or wall mounted lights. You can get wall mounted lights that plug into the wall if you can’t change the electrics (eg if you’re renting or on a budget).

Beautiful colours is where it starts and you build from there. My room doesn't get loads of light so I painted it a sunshiny yellow and use navy and blue for accent colours. I bought cheap secondhand bedside tables and painted them navy and tiled the top with Moroccan patterns. The blackout blind and lightshades are dark blue and the art on the walls is relaxing with cool colours. My bed and other furniture is oak and the sheets are high threadcount white cotton.

I love it and it's my haven.

So new lamp shades are up - need to get an electrician for ceiling light fitting.

Have ordered Muji organisers, and enough coat hangers.

Tackling drawers and curtains tomorrow! Thanks for all the advice...

Walls and ceiling decoration will have to wait for now until we can get a decorator in (can decorators do light fittings too?). Also picked up a lovely new bedside lamp. Am having a look at wall colour options though and then I will figure out bedding.
