Oddbutnotodd

What would you count not drinking wine regularly? I have a few glasses twice a week. I am wondering
do I need to cut down to once every 2 weeks. I would prefer to drnk less often and have 2 glasses rather than a few times a week and having one small glass. Thanks

Timeforredwine · 24/07/2021 16:38

This is a great thread, really noticed my waist too, cut down carbs, drink less wine & walking, would love to join with you all in August!

Oddbutnotodd · 24/07/2021 16:56

Hi. I don’t drink wine very often now so maybe once or twice a month. Depends on my social life - I tend to see people for sport or coffee rather than evening drinks. I do have a gin and tonic sometimes at home.

Also thanks to all the other posters not mentioned but with so much inspiration and I've enjoyed reading them all.

Barre sounds fun pinkhousesarebest

It seems like what keeps coming up is:
no sugar & alcohol
low carb
intermittent fasting
regular exercise

We've got a week to get our tape measures, plan (hopefully) enjoyable exercise and enjoyable lowish carb meals

HRT made me put on weight so I've come off it 😫

MiniTheMinx · 24/07/2021 18:20

Delatron I'm glad I'm not alone. Shopping used to be easy.....yeah its short, thats fine, great legs. Now its "I'm looking for something long, no waist, preferably high neck and if its black that would be great" and the only thing matching that description is a habit. In my 40s I was told you choose either your face or your figure.....at 48 I'm starting to see not only can you not have both, but I'll be lucky to keep either Grin

I'm doing online shops for August so will cut out carbs and sugar, and get out the tape measure.

Jackieweaverishere · 24/07/2021 18:36

@Katekarate I'm definitely interested in an August thread, count me in!

ittakes2 · 24/07/2021 18:46

I would also love to know thank you.

Katekarate · 24/07/2021 18:52

MiniTheMinx you have a brilliant sense of humour though that did make me laugh (and relate!)

Lovely to see a few more wanting to join in will try to tag everyone in. Do we think I should start it in chat or do I need another section of talk?

I’m 48 and perimenopausal. I started the Fast800 12 week programme last year and have since gone from 39 inch waist to 28 inch waist. It really clicked with me and have kept to the woe even though I’ve stopped calorie counting few months ago now. My weight has remained stable ever since.

I also do weight training now but didn’t to begin with.

EvilPea · 24/07/2021 19:22

Yea to standing properly.
The difference is huge if I remember not to stand like a fucking teletubby.

BreakfastOfWaffles · 24/07/2021 19:30

Mine started disappearing a couple of years ago. I was able to reclaim some of it by cutting out sugar and daily obliques/core workout (I like Davina Mccall). I am a natural pear shape though, so reclaiming my waist has been a lot easier than reducing my thighs!

Katekarate · 24/07/2021 19:39

I think it's just easy to get into the habit of not holding it in EvilPea especially during the lockdowns because who holds their stomach in as much at home.
That's really inspiring wetpants and also BreakfastOfWaffles
Any strategies or advice for the first few days of cutting out sugar?

@ChristopherTracy

The difference with men is that they can lose it again relatively recently. Without going onto HRT it is incredibly difficult for perimenopause onwards to lose weight even with drastic calorie reduction/exercise.
No HRT here. No way would I have taken it. My grandmother didn’t (If it was available), my mother didn’t nor did my aunts, sister or cousins.

As another poster said genetics play a part. None of us have had weight gain but we have all ate less calories as we have got older.

Work colleagues that were overweight before the menopause are still overweight after whether they took HRT or not.

BreakfastOfWaffles · 24/07/2021 19:45

For me, I had to go cold turkey on the sugar. My problem is that I have a sweet tooth and tend to snack in the late afternoon. I cleared all the sweet stuff out of the house for a start and didn't buy more. I allowed myself to snack on dried fruit though. I will admit that in the first few months there were times when I gave in and bought something, but you don't have to eat all of it. For example, you give in and pick up a cupcake - it is OK to take a couple of bites but then throw the rest away. This felt wasteful to me and I do try not to do that, but in the early weeks it may help you establish the habit.

Jerseygirl12 · 24/07/2021 19:48

I’ve still got a waist but I’m bigger all over, I’m 52.

opinionminion · 24/07/2021 19:52

Placemarking, fellow sufferer of waist issues here; always been flat as a board, now podgy and soft ... I am 51 Shock

Timeforredwine · 24/07/2021 20:15

Definitely will be here🍷.

I’m in op! No/less Wine will definitely be the hardest part!

MiniTheMinx · 24/07/2021 21:29

SerialRelocator wow, go you, that's amazing.

BreakfastOfWaffles how did you feel when you first cut out sugar? are there any effects from going cold turkey? I tried to give up coffee because I have become over reliant on coffee with sugar. I felt quite unwell for a few days. Not sure if it was caffeine withdrawal or sugar. I don't have sugar rich foods often, but drink two much coffee. If I added it all up I think I easily consume around 10 teaspoons of sugar a day Blush.

Tupperwarescissors · 25/07/2021 08:33

@Minitheminx I gave up caffeine and sugar recently and had the headache from hell, felt unwell for about 5 days.

Is anyone else here vegetarian/pescatarian? I find it hard to go low carb without eating loads of eggs and fish, but would love to join in.

I eat healthily, but too much, and I exercise a lot.

I'm wondering if exercise with a weighted hula hoop would help - has anyone tried that?

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 25/07/2021 08:37

Giving up alcohol did it for me. I already don’t eat much sugar and am fairly active.
