Where would you stop half way through? Maybe somewhere for just lunch on the way there, and potentially a 2 night stay on the way back? It will be DP and me alongside 3 teens, two aged 14 and one 16.

Somewhere in North Yorkshire.

Never been, so would love to visit. Any specific locations? Happy to splash out a little bit for some pampering in a nice accommodation, or even better, find activities for the teens to do, even if a bit pricey.

Nostell Priory, Thorp Perrow, Newby Hall, Fountains Abbey and Brodsworth Hall are all close to the A1 and are definitely worth visiting. They’re lovely for a leg stretch and a lunch, but they each cost quite a bit to enter and so might not be worth it if you don’t have much time.
There’s a Go Ape near Leeds (Temple Newsam) quite close to the A1. Parking is free and there are some walking trails, cafe and a picnic area.
In terms of just places to eat and go to the loo, there’s Spring House Farm Shop and Cafe, Farmer Copley’s and the Aldwark Arms.
Last time we broke the journey with an overnight stay, we stayed in a comfy family room at Oulton Hall and visited Diggerland and SnoZone.
