If you've been contacted by Test & Trace (NOT the app) how long after a positive test was it?

Just wondering - if you've been contacted by NHS test & trace (NOT THE APP) because you were identified as a contact of a positive case, how long after the test result was it/ how long did they ask you to isolate for?

I've heard a couple of friends say that by the time they were contacted they only had one or so days to isolate (or it had already passed) so I was wondering if it always takes several days (and is therefore not that effective....!) or if it varies a lot and you might be contacted on the day someone tests positive even?

I'm not positive or expecting to receive a call etc, just interested in what people's experiences have been! (Not with the app as that works differently).

Contacted with 5 days left of the isolation period left.

My DD got her positive result on the Tuesday and wasn’t actually contacted herself by t&t until the Saturday morning.

Counting from when her symptoms started, she only had another 3 days to isolate

Her close contacts (housemates who all tested positive themselves within a day or 2 and were isolating already) got a phone call the Saturday afternoon to tell them they’d been a contact and needed to isolate - despite DD telling t&t they were isolating anyway as they’d gone on to get positive tests themselves and were awaiting their own calls - their isolation finished and 1 was still waiting for their initial call

I didn't even know they contacted the person with the positive result!? What's the point of that?!
Hope your DD is ok.

It's meant to be 10 days isolation from contact, even if that person was 2 days before the positive test - right?

They worked out how long she needed to isolate based on when her symptoms started and then where she’d been and who she’d been in contact with and whether they counted as close enough contacts
alloalloallo · 23/07/2021 17:13

Sorry, posted too soon

They wanted to know where she’d been and who she’d seen in the 48 hours prior to her symptoms starting and since.

She’s fine, horrendous headache for a couple of days, mild cold symptoms and an irritating cough. Felt really rubbish for one day but is back to normal now.

Thanks!

Collegue tested positive 1.30pm yesterday, I was contacted by T&T at 1.30pm today, 9 days left to self isolate.

Quarantino · 23/07/2021 17:20

Hmm Koyto that's quite a contrast then!
Hope you're not too inconvenienced. Still a bit on edge as to whether we'll get a call from school as only broke up on Weds!

How would they know who their close contacts were unless they contacted them and asked?

Oh yes, I see. I thought it meant 'told to self-isolate'. Doh!

So there's potentially a backlog in them getting the details from the positive case, rather than necessarily in then going on to contact the relevant people.

Yes, could be. I think?!

DS tested on Tues, I posted test back Weds and we got a notification overnight last night that it was positive. T&t rang me at 8.30 this morning.

Our holiday next week is now off - or at least until Sat, assuming he doesn’t get actually ill (he is absolutely fine at the mo) and none of the rest of us test positive/develop symptoms in the mean time.

So a long weekend instead of a 10-day holiday. Fully appreciate much worse things have happened due up Covid but I’m still Angry.

MythsandSparkles · 23/07/2021 17:40

Positive result Saturday morning, positive person uploaded details to test and trace from the link in the text with the test result and then close contacts all contacted within minutes with an automated text from test and trace based on the info filled in online.

A follow up phone call came a few days later but that was just to go through checking we were isolating - not to tell us.

2girls · 23/07/2021 17:45

Dh got his result put the details into the online track and trace and I got a text about 10 minutes later

MythsandSparkles · 23/07/2021 17:46

I’ve just read your last post - i think it’s a back log in getting details from the positive case rather than a delay in test and trace.

It’s quite possible to meet with someone Sunday, they feel ill Monday, order a postal test, test on Tuesday, return Wednesday, positive result Thursday, they tell test and trace their contacts on Friday - so at that point you only have to isolate for another 4 days, if the test turn around is longer (some are taking 72 hours at the moment) or the person delays telling test and trace then You would be out of the isolation window quite easily.

Quarantino · 23/07/2021 18:49

Sorry to hear that Satan.
I've a holiday booked that by my calculations can't be cut more than half a day short at the start, as I'm not planning on going anywhere before then.
But to be honest I'm worried about booking in for e.g. swimming on site and then being contacted and told to isolate based on the resort's records of who's in e.g. that particular pool session.
It's a crap way to try and plan!

Thank you Quarantino - hope you get your holiday and your plans don’t get messed up.

Completely agree, it does your head in trying to make any plans at the mo. And Sod’s law I’d arranged loads of activities and restaurants this hol which is v unlike me but I thought I should because y’know, Covid… and which I now have to cancel/rearrange… Hmm

DrMadelineMaxwell · 23/07/2021 19:04

You could still be contacted. We finished last week and I heard on the Saturday that we all had to isolate from the Wednesday after a child became symptomatic friday and tested positive.

It always takes a few days to get in contact due to people taking a day or two to develop symptoms and a day or two to get test results.

Quarantino · 23/07/2021 19:58

Thanks Dr - we've a clear week or so before we go so should be fine whatever, from school that is - although loads of other parents have gone away already...
This time last year I was scared of getting covid, but when we did go away rates were the lowest and we didn't do any activities indoors with anyone else so were fairly relaxed.
This year we're both double-jabbed but more scared of isolating, as we will continue being cautious on hol so think risk is fairly low of being ill - which I appreciate is a better position to be in I suppose, but still crap when we're trying to give the kids a decent holiday.

Definitely delay in the test results rather than the t&t. 3 positive results in the past 8 days in our house. T&t sent messages within minutes of getting off the phone/logging on the app. The last two results took 4 days though (and symptoms had been from 3 days before that -postal tests), so the isolation time left was half way through by the time from t&t came through.
