I want to go to my GP and get sick leave for a week or two

I want to go to the doctor next week and get signed off from work.

I'm having a difficult time in work lately. I'm a nanny and I work approx 60 hours this week. I don't even have a day off this week. I'm back into work tomorrow and I might be needed on Sunday. That's not very fair.

I work for a couple who loaded so much onto my back this week and they don't even appreciate me or respect me. The mother is increasingly difficult to get along with. She's the same with her husband and teenage daughter. She's never happy. Shes someone who only sees what she wants to see. She often comes home and sees the work that's not done or complete and she scolds me. Even though I could have a whole entire day's work done. I nearly run the utility room like a factory with wash loads. After Christmas she gave out stink to me because her families laundry was piling up but I got a few days off over Christmas (Christmas day and boxing day) and when I went back to work after Christmas, I did as much as what I could do and she had the cheek and the neck to scold me about the laundry piling up. I should have walked then never mind about staying on working more for them.

I want to leave. The family has me as live in this week and next week and the load is just too much. Especially with the heatwave that we had. I actually feel sick. The sun made me sick, I never really had appropriate rest periods, one her children didn't sleep at night and I was up most nights. I'm completely migrained out now and I just feel so so so sick.

I want to go to the doctor on Monday and get signed out of work. I need a break. The parents really pissed on my annual leave too and has denied me annual leave this summer. The last time I was allowed a proper break and holiday from work with a week off was in 2019.

Would a doctor sign me out of work? I do have backache. I could go to the doctor with backache.

I would do it. You have to look after yourself. I wouldn't go back though. Could you secure other work?

It might be worth going down the stress route with your GP; you do sound as if it’s grinding you down.

DismantledKing · 23/07/2021 16:17

You can also self certificate for a short period of time before seeing the GP.

Jailbreak42 · 23/07/2021 16:21

Have you got someone you can go and stay with OP? Are your wages up to date?

I would simply leave and never come back.

Figgygal · 23/07/2021 16:21

You don’t need a break you need to leave
Start seriously looking for a new job

Orf1abc · 23/07/2021 16:25

Are you employed or self employed?

You'd need to self certify for the first seven days, GPs are not supposed to give notes to cover that period.

I agree with others, you need a new job.

HuckedF · 23/07/2021 16:27

Fuck that shit op.

I'd be outta there.

Can't you leave pronto?

Failing that, start looking for a new job.

These people are taking the piss

clouds87 · 23/07/2021 16:30

Been there as a nanny, it was my first nannying job I was only 18, it wasn’t the hours but the treatment and when I was going home in tears (over something petty but it all adds up) I knew it was time to look elsewhere, no regrets, you have to be your no.1 x

SleepingStandingUp · 23/07/2021 16:33

What does your contract state op? You say you're live in for 2 weeks, is this paid for? Whats your usual home situation? Yes you can go to the docs and one might sign you off for stress but thats not the actual solution you need.

If your contract is X hrs, stick to it.

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 23/07/2021 16:33

Are you in London, OP? I hope they are paying you loads for those kinds of hours and that amount of pressure…

Loubiemoo · 23/07/2021 16:35

Self cert for the first week and book a gp appointment whilst off.

You don’t sound like you’re being treated a a nanny, more like a housekeeper. Start looking for a new job whilst you’re off as well.

Runnerduck34 · 23/07/2021 16:36

Yanbu to get signed off sick, you are genuinely stressed and exhausted. Are you an employee or self employed?
Honestly the family you work for sound awful, I would look for another job asap. Good luck

Loubiemoo · 23/07/2021 16:36

I would also get legal advice about not being given your annual leave.

aiwblam · 23/07/2021 16:37

Stress induced repeated migraines is the truth and fine to tell the doctor.

StepawayfromtheBiscuittin · 23/07/2021 16:40

Definitely get signed off OP. Also if you've a contract I'd be looking at your legal entitlement. They are taking the absolute piss.
Find another job. Not everyone is as entitled as your current employers appear to be.

loveliesbleeding1 · 23/07/2021 16:47

You are being treated dreadfully, definitely see your Doctor.

Adelino · 23/07/2021 16:51

It sounds like you legitimately need time off for stress.
Do you know what you would be paid during this time. It should be in your contract. We're you paid for the holiday entitlement which you weren't allowed to use?
I suspect with the amount of work.thry seem to piling on you that you have been taken advantage of in other ways and may not be being employed legally. Do they pay employers National Insurance for you and pay in to a pension fund? If not then you could potentially take advice from CAB or perhaps another organisation to make sure you get what you are entitled to. I think you'd have more rights if you have been there for more than 2 years, so that might be worth discussing too.

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 23/07/2021 17:12

Go down the stress route, ask to be signed off and look for a new position while they're still having to pay you. I would and I wouldn't go back.

Steakandcheeseplease · 23/07/2021 17:14

Go off on stress

BIWI · 23/07/2021 17:17

For goodness sake - get signed off, and when you're off use that time to find yourself another job. You are being taken advantage of, massively.

toocold54 · 23/07/2021 17:20

I definitely would try! I’m not sure if doctors actually do this though?!

Then I’d be using the time to relax and look for a new job.

DogsSausages · 23/07/2021 17:27

Do you have your own place to live, do you have a contract that states yours hours and responsibilities. I would self cert for a week, spend that time looking for another job and just resign on Monday.

HotSauceCommittee · 23/07/2021 17:27

Are you a nanny or a housekeeper? It's fair enough to do the childrens' laundry and tidy up after yourselves, but you shouldn't be cleaning the house and doing the whole family's washing. What would happen if you told your employers this?
And that you can only work 40 hours per week for your health?

MrsMiddleMother · 23/07/2021 17:44

Seriously why have you not already quit? Not much point getting signed off with stress or whatever, when in 2 weeks time you back to it all again.
