Upstairs Reception Room - Logistics

Hiya. Just wondering if anyone has any good ideas. We live in a Victorian terrace with a pretty narrow staircase. We're in the process of getting our getting our loft done and at some point would like to make one of the current bed rooms into a sitting area with a sofa bed so DC can use it for gaming etc (we're open plan downstairs). Can't see how we'd get anything but bean bags up our stairs though. Has anyone done this at all and if so, how? Many thanks

You can buy sofas that come in boxes and you fit them together, including sofa beds. They’re not cheap though. Would IKEA boxes not fit up the stairs?

@FayeFayeFayeFayeFaye - that's useful, thank you! 😊 I guess they would, depending on the size of the box. When we first moved in, we had to get sash window in the bay removed to get our existing sofa in - it's a stupidly narrow house...

Ikea sofa build yourself. The ones with removable covers.. Can unbox downstairs and carry up in bits if need be but when my friend had one I don't really remember boxes being massive.

We have an upstairs sitting room (sounds grand - our house really is not Grin)

I took an Ikea Hemnes daybed up there in bits and assembled it in the room. I would have thought you'd manage to get flatpack like this upstairs in bits.

The Hemnes daybed is fab because it's quite deep so comfy for sitting on cross-legged and with two mattresses stacked makes a very comfortable guest bed (slept on it for ten nights running and didn't get any issues with a recurring back problem I have).

Then I have a Billy bookcase all along one of the walls which houses board games, jigsaws, the TV, DVD player etc.

The IKEA site lists the sizes of each separate box in the delivery as well as the final dimensions.

Their Friheten sofa is very comfy.

Sofa.com makes sofas that come in pieces. Would probably work.
