Parking ticket - have I got right to appeal?

Received a letter after parking at my friend's flat for the weekend - there's a parking permit for the flat (she doesn't drive) and it was in my car but had clearly blown off the dash as I shut the door.

So basically I was permitted to park there but the parking pass wasn't visible. Is it worth me appealing?

I've checked money saving expert website and it does give instructions on how to appeal if you think the ticket is unfair, but I'm not sure how unfair it was? I can do without paying £60 and it was an accident.

Not sure you'll win as the requirement isn't to 'have' the permit but to 'clearly display' it.

Your error. You should have checked.

If it was in the car, but not on the dash. Your going to have to pay, do they give discount for paying faster?
Yes you can apply for it to be dismissed, get a letter off your friend to say they gave you the pass, but unless they are nice they will have proof of the pass not being in view and you could end up just having to pay, as your classed as in the wrong for not checking the pass was viewable.

If you still have the permit they might let you off. I once wrote to the council explaining and apologising and they let me off (I think I paid and they refunded though).

I guessed as much. I'll have to get her to check the signage and what's on the pass to see if I have a hope.

I appealed a ticket for the same reason and was unsuccessful. I knew it was a long shot

I’d try. It happened to me in a public car park where the ticket blew off the dash when I shut the door. They cancelled the ticket.
Happened again in a private car park where I put the permit on the dash back to front. So annoying. They gave me a 50% discount as a gesture of goodwill, which I accepted because I did make the mistake. Paid £30.

This happened to me, I'd actually completely forgotten to get the pass from my friend so it wasn't in the car at all. It was a council owned car park and they rescinded the fine once she explained. I guess this might be less successful with a private parking firm.

hellcatspangle · 23/07/2021 14:45

It's a private car park, I doubt they'll be so lenient!

Tibtab · 23/07/2021 14:47

It’s different if it’s a guest parking permit rather than a ticket. The guest permit could have been in another car at the time of the offence.
It does say that the permit should be visible so I think your appeal wouldn’t be successful.

I would. You haven't anything to loose by trying. You can often take it further to POPLA if it's a private company and the appeal is turned down. It's just a money making scheme especially if you went to the trouble of getting a pass. Angry
