How to keep cool in bed

Hi the heat is stopping me from sleeping I only slept for 2 hrs last night. What type of material would be coolest for bed sheets ? I can't leave the window open because it's to noisy and no fan as I just can't sleep the noise it makes.

Our dog has a cool matt and I can’t tell you how tempted I am to get another to put on our bed / they are wonderful
No practical ideas though

I find if my feet are cool I feel better (like in winter I feel warmer if my feet are warm)

Hot water bottle filled with water and ice helps me.

I soak a cotton scarf (a sheet would do) in tepid water and lie under it. It’s a lot more soothing than it sounds. I do also have a fan on to circulate the air though.

Ice packs? I use the ones that go in cool bags, wrapped in tea towels, and use them as I would use a hot water bottle in cold weather. I have one cotton sheet, which I normally chuck off at some point.

I am lying on a cool gel pet mat and have the fan on, wearing earplugs which blocks out the noise of the fan.

What’s your mattress made of? Foam can be quite hot because it sort of reflects your body heat back at you.

Or windows open and ear plugs?

MeadowHay · 22/07/2021 22:49

I'm a very light sleeper too but I actually find the fan noise to be akin to a sort of white noise that helps blot out the noise from outside with the windows open. Perhaps your fan is just noiser than mine though?

Also, ear plugs. Round ours, particularly weekend nights, it's really noisy - loads of drunk people shouting outside out house until 1/2am noisy - and then the traffic on the main road picks up at about 5am and is noisy too. So I just wear ear plugs most of the time when it's hot enough to need windows open.

I also just don't use a bed cover of any type atm. The last couple of nights I slept in a vest and undies with no cover on at all.

Buy a Chillmax pillow from Amazon - pop it in the fridge for an hour or so before bed.
Also a wet (wrung out) hand towel on my legs keep me cool

Same as PP - hot water bottle filled with cold water and put in the freezer until it's frozen. It really does the trick to keep cool in bed

A spray bottle filled with Kolonya - Turkish cologne. It’s so refreshing and evaporates so doesn’t cause dampness in your room.

Smells wonderful.

Be careful spraying it around or near pets and fish tanks etc.

This. It is incredibly effective to have your feet on an icepack you've had in the freezer all day. Has made the world of difference to me.

To settle you into bed at first, you can either put your pillow case in the fridge or freezer, or put a t-towel over your pillow, that you've chilled first, but that only lasts for the first hour or so whereas the cool pack is still cold in the morning.
