Does anyone make or has anyone bought beautiful handmade mugs?

Need a little anniversary gift did DH. We drink a lot of coffee so was looking for some really lovely handmade mugs to make a coffee related gift box.

Had a browse of Etsy as I sell there myself and would like to support another business but can’t find anything I love.

They need to be a good size and interesting to look at.

Any suggestions?

Personally I like Emma Bridgewater mugs. They can be personalised. Their styles are nice and I like the fact Emma Bridgewater bought a factory in Stoke and made it into a lovely place creating loads of jobs for people making lovely things. Happy anniversary

Oh I read 'rugs' Hmm

I would Google your local pottery, we have a few micro ones round about and their things are really special.

Have a looks at Glosters - they make some lovely mugs. Small business based in Porthmadog (North Wales)

These are gorgeous if you like stoneware.

But see if you have a local company? It’ll be more meaningful.

My word there are some fantastic hand made mugs out there. I'm going to be adding some to my 'shopping' list.

If you're thinking decoration, not design, then I bought a completely customised mug with a quote and picture on from this seller on Etsy - it's beautifully done.

I totally missed your suggestion! Cross post! Our wedding service is from there! But we alao have gorgeous mugs from skye pottery too!

But i agree, pottery from somewhere you live or have been, or have been given by someone with a connection to the place, is so meaningful, and for some reason imo, a mug even more so!

Mugs from this pottery were featured on Lake District Farm Shop (about Tebay Services on the M6)

I absolutely love the mugs at Lyme Regis old mill - they don't have a website but I do have their email if you want to pm me. I recently broke one of mine and they made me a replacement on demand

Isle of Harris gin distillers (stay with me in this!) have some lovely hand thrown mugs and tea infusers your match. And gin. But you asked about the mugs 😁

Thanks so much everyone, will trawl these today.

Amusingly we live in a town with a very famous pottery… but they don’t make mugs!

I love Cornishware - www.cornishware.co.uk/mugs Lots of colours as well.

Breathmiller · 23/07/2021 09:29

This is indeed a dangerous thread.
I am now coveting a handmade colander or berry bowl. Who knew such a thing existed or had the potential to make my life complete?

Breathmiller · 23/07/2021 09:33

On the coffee cup thing thoug, since you asked sinkgirl , I have a friend who is a potterer and on her open night I bought a little blue round coffee cup with the perfect handle for me. In true Marie Kindo style it sparks sooooo much joy every morning when I have my coffee in it.

I do feel you need a chance to hold a cup before you buy it. Can you go on a day trip somewhere that has a few poterry places?

I love the Crail pottery a PP posted above and will be in the area for a few days in August. I may have to visit.

Breathmiller · 23/07/2021 09:33

Excuse spelling typos.

Rose Nisbet and Lauren Nicholas Ceramics are my faves

WhatAWasteOfOranges · 23/07/2021 09:37

Oh and Sophie Alda does lovely stuff too. This could be quite cool depending on the type of coffee you drink
