Please can anyone help with blood test results?

I’ve had a swollen lymph node behind one ear for about 5 weeks. I’ve not been ill at all, not even a sniffle.

I’ve had no other symptoms really. just tired ness, but of itching (but we’ve had a flea infestation so could just be that).

Saw the GP yesterday, had some bloods taken as she wasn’t happy with the lymph node being up on its own. Got the results emailed to me today (it’s a private GP I use so it’s all really quick).

I am back tomorrow morning to discuss but of course I’ve googled.

HS CRP is 17.69 mg/l
ESR is 20mm/hr
plasma viscosity higher than normal

everything else, red/white cells etc in normal range.

I’ve wound myself up with worry.

I’m 41 and my mum was already dead by my age from colon cancer and my dad has it now.

Please any advice from anyone? Are those levels really high?

I am very fat if that makes a difference (BMI about 42).

They already made a haematology referral when I was there yesterday as she wasn’t happy with the lymph node, just waiting on my insurance company to make it for me.

I don't think it's sensible to worry yourself with what ifs. It's clear you have inflammation of some sort within your body but what that is, who knows? Hopefully, you'll have an answer and be in the mend soon.

@Arsebucket one thing I would say is that private GPs love to do all the tests under the sun - which is obviously good in some ways but also stressful too. If it was an emergency you’d be contacted immediately on the back of blood results. Try to stay calm, I know it’s easier said than done!

The results were sent to me not the GP as I’d paid for them. So it was up to me to discuss if I wanted to which I do. Sent to me because as it’s private I can go off and see any other GP I want. So I wouldn’t have heard anything from that GP again unless I booked an app tomorrow to speak to them (I’ve only used private GPs for 20 years, I’m totally used to it!)

Theyhave already referred me to haematology which my insurance are sorting out and then anything from there will go through them.

But I really wanted to speak to a dr about them or i’d have gone crazy waiting for the haematology appointment.

I am not a doctor, but I am a healthcare professional and I had to deal with my DD having a humongous lymph node for over 6 months.

If the red and white blood cells are ok, I wouldn’t stress. The CRP is high and it indicates a risk of heart disease, which coupled with your BMI wouldn’t be a surprise to you. ESR goes up for anything and in your case it isn’t that high anyway, so again I wouldn’t worry.

Most probably you are recovering from a viral infection or have an inflammation somewhere. However, there is always the worst case scenario, the one in a million, which as you have gone private, they must investigate and that is why they referred you to haematology. To exclude a lymphoma. But honestly, if your red and white cells are ok and you don’t have any other symptoms like night sweats, I wouldn’t stress.

And yes. I know I’m at huge risk due to my weight. Already on it though. Half a stone gone already (just eating a paleo diet).
