I've only had it plugged in for a couple of hours and look at the gas usage!!!

Is your heating responsible for this heatwave we’re having 🤣🤣🤣

MorganSeventh · 22/07/2021 20:13

Seems a bit steep...

Theunamedcat · 22/07/2021 20:14

It might be a bit faulty

Or its hooked up to the sun

Fiddliestofsticks · 22/07/2021 20:14

Maybe youd better call them... and also, close your windows to keep the heat in. We don't want anymore of it!

Redcrayons · 22/07/2021 20:15

Does that say £60k an hour? Do you live in a nuclear reactor?

Whiskycav · 22/07/2021 20:15

Fucking hell! What size house do you live in?

CiaoForNiao · 22/07/2021 20:16

That explains it Grin

Someone has probably just input the price per unit wrongly. Did the installer do it or did you, gas is priced differently to electricity and it's easy to get confused

The meter only measures usage then calculates ££ based on your tariff so scope for error (apologies if you already knew that but I know people get confused)

EugeniaGrace · 22/07/2021 20:18

I think you need to consider switching your energy deal. I hope you are not locked in now. 😉

BarbaraofSeville · 22/07/2021 20:33

And that's the summer cost, it's going to be even more in winter.

mizu · 22/07/2021 20:35

I have no idea what it's doing! We live in a two bed flat Grin
A guy came today to fit the meters and told me to plug this baby in to see what we are using.

Yes, I'll have to call them tomorrow.

So much for smart meters making things easier.

I've been pestered for months to get it and now look what's happened.

OP posts:
mizu · 22/07/2021 20:36

Our usual bill is £85 a month for both electric and gas.

This is EXACTLY why I do not, and will not, have a "smart"meter installed 😵

Because you think they will start charging you £59,000 an hour 😂😂 Come on, it's clearly a mistake 🙄.
MittensOnKittens03 · 22/07/2021 20:42

Usually the gas takes 24hr to be accurate, the reason being when they install the gas meter they have to do a check which involves putting gas through the meter. The device is showing your usage over a small period of time when gas was pushed height as part of the test so it will look high but 1) they should of explained it wouldn’t be accurate straight away for gas so that’s poor 2) it isn’t what you will pay anyway

By all means call them tomorrow to confirm

mizu · 22/07/2021 20:49

Thanks mittens I'm sure it will be ok, maybe the figure will have changed by the morning.

You do realise you don't need those boxes in your house? That's just for an indication on what your using (albeit clearly here there is a glitch on day of installation). But otherwise the meter is just where it usually is and send the info back to the utility company and you would have actualised bills every single month.

You don't seem to be very reasonable minded.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 22/07/2021 21:43

Wow, does it really consider spending 4p/hour on electricity on the verge of being in the red/excessive zone - and then 5p/hour takes you well into that zone?

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 22/07/2021 21:46

It's only gone down to zero because you've emptied the local Gasometer.

MittensOnKittens03 · 22/07/2021 22:35

@WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll
The dial moves depending on what’s on in the house not because it’s 5p per hour. If you go round and turn all your appliances on it’ll go into the red zone when they switch off back to green
The 5p is just the cost for the day so far

Gilead · 22/07/2021 23:53

I haven’t got one anymore but I liked it, it made me think about things.
