Where's somewhere you've visited but wouldn't want to go back to?

Positive and negative!

I went to Las Vegas, glad I went, but no desire to return! :)

Would never return to Warwick Castle. It's quite over rated...and not much even happened there, it just looks the part! :)

Blackpool, awful, filthy.

kikipie · 22/07/2021 15:20

There are places in the western Algarve that are also very different to ‘brits abroad’ places. I wouldn’t go anywhere from Faro to Albufeira

Nohomemadecandles · 22/07/2021 15:20

Nando's

Forrestttheout · 22/07/2021 15:22

Very amused by Nairobi being scary, I often wonder what parts of town people end up in to get that impression. Its a huge city and yes some parts are not safe or nice but theirs also endless leafy suburbs you can wander round in perfectly safely. Even in the worst parts needing a body guard is laughable. But then I am originally from one 'dodgy' UK cities mentioned here Grin
I really disliked Copenhagen, everything was overpriced, crowded and there wasn't really much to do there. In the UK I would have to agree with birmingham

groundcontroltomontydon · 22/07/2021 15:22

Norfolk - weird, weird, weird
Cornwall - just so far away from everywhere, including the Welcome to Cornwall sign

Caligal · 22/07/2021 15:23

Also, I have never seen homelessness on a scale I did in a western country in Oregon and Seattle. It was upsetting and unsettling. Not sure I would rush back there either although the pacific north west is beautiful overall but the cities didn’t live up to the hype for me, especially Seattle.

Ha ha Dismantled.
Roy’s of Wroxham. He’s everywhere.

Las Vegas is a really interested one!

I went when I was about 12 as part of a big family holiday, I really want to go back.
Only for a few days though. I see Las Vegas itself as a tacky fun attraction. Ridiculously hot so a bit of pool time, see a couple of Vegas style shows (we went to see an amazing extreme magic show), explore the crazy hotels, go to the rollercoasters/ hotels with rides and experience some fun restaurants (giant ice cream sundaes and such). I’m not one for nightlife though, clubbing and drinking aren’t my thing. No wonder I haven’t found anyone to go with yet 😃

I loved Paris and am glad I went but for similar reasons as others have mentioned, I’ve done it, glad I did, no desire to return.

Also been to Marrakesh, don’t regret it, old city was fascinating and Atlas mountain tour was amazing. But not again. Intimidating and not relaxing.

Magaluf and Salou in Spain. Oh god. These were my “girl holiday” destinations post school and at uni. Never again. I went because to be part of the group and felt you had to and I’ll have fun when I’m there.....nope. Looking back at photos, they’re both total dives. Dirty, crowded, I just remember being grabbed and jeered at. Some of my friends kept returning to these places for years every summer to party, absolute hell in my personal opinion!

Petra, Jordan. Really pleased I’ve seen it. Horribly crowded though and the usual disrespectful tourists along with respectful ones. Once is fine.

Athens, Paris, Dublin, Tunisia, Egypt, Bali…

Montsti · 22/07/2021 15:26

Rome is my absolute favourite city

Redapplewreath · 22/07/2021 15:27

Derbyshire.

I spent a week trying hard to like it and find the beauty everyone talks about it, and it was just cold and harsh and run down wherever we went. Elizabeth Bennett can keep it.

Reading through a lot of these thinking I love those places.... so personal isn't it!

waterlego · 22/07/2021 15:28

@Caligal, we drove from San Francisco to Seattle a few years ago, and I know what you mean about some of the Oregon towns and cities. We drove through a place called Eureka which sadly didn’t live up to its name. I was quite taken aback by some of the poverty and substandard housing.

The Oregon coast as a whole though is one of the loveliest places I’ve been in the world. The sunsets and the seafood were spectacular, and the locals were incredibly friendly and welcoming.

skippy67 · 22/07/2021 15:30

Cornwall.

Montsti · 22/07/2021 15:30

I also remember going to Tijuana for the day while we were in California just so we had been to Mexico…it was like going back in time and people were being pickpocketed left right and Centre…that was in the late 80s. I think it’s much more dangerous now..so I wouldn’t rush back!

I also felt very unsafe in Rio…also Copacabana Beach really wasn’t that great…definitely should have stayed on Ipanema..

waterlego · 22/07/2021 15:31

Actually just realise Eureka was in Northern California, not Oregon, but there were places like that in Oregon too.

CallmeHendricks · 22/07/2021 15:32

Another one here for New York.
Went in between Christmas and New Year at the tail end of deep snow.
Found it crowded, dirty, noisy and with graffiti everywhere. And freezing cold.

Firstruleofsoupover · 22/07/2021 15:34

Oxford has upped its game in the last few years with a big overhaul of one of the shopping centres. It doesn't sound like much but they have really gone to town with a luxury cinema and bars at the top, lots of eating out options, roof terrace etc. It looked spectacular a couple of Christmasses ago. Really worthy of an international city in this regard.

I did not take to Hebden Bridge. It was mutual (small amount of bother got into).

NeonJellyBaby · 22/07/2021 15:35

Turkey

pollywollydoodler · 22/07/2021 15:35

I have no wish to go back to The room where they have you clear your bowels before a colonoscopy

I love Anglesey

RubyJack · 22/07/2021 15:36

Berlin

mam0918 · 22/07/2021 15:36

London, hated every second of it every time I have been there.

Birmingham too.

I imagine any 'BIG' city type place will be the same (DH wants to go to New York but I think it will just be another place like 'London' or 'Birmingham' which he also hates but just full of Americans instead of cockneys and brummies which might be even worse lol)

Zilla1 · 22/07/2021 15:39

@bongbigboobingbongbing, I could be wrong but suspect it is Harrogate that is 10 minutes from where Tay lives, not from Bath unless they are a billionaire flying their rocket ship.

museumsandgalleries666 · 22/07/2021 15:39

@Tay1980

Bath, thought it would be beautiful but Harrogate (10 minutes up the road) is far nicer 🤷🏼‍♀️
Bath-Harrowgate is a 4.5 hour drive
CoralFish · 22/07/2021 15:40

Walsingham - pilgrimage village in Yorkshire. It was very empty and had a sort of creepy vibe.

mam0918 · 22/07/2021 15:40

Marrakesh STUNK so bad, was full of people trying to 'scam' money out of you, the animals we saw where in horrible condition and driving was horrific.

That said much of Morroco was BEAUTIFUL, once again it was just the big city bit that really sucked - Ouzoude is a great place to go if you want a nice day out (the locals are lovely and the wild animals are well protected by them).
