Where's somewhere you've visited but wouldn't want to go back to?

Positive and negative!

I went to Las Vegas, glad I went, but no desire to return! :)

Would never return to Warwick Castle. It's quite over rated...and not much even happened there, it just looks the part! :)

China. Spitting, crotchless baby grows, oppressive.

Siquijor, Philippines. Paradise.

todaysdilemma · 22/07/2021 14:50

Tanzania, or any part of East Africa tbh. I grew up in a poor part Asia so used to poverty, heat, lack of infrastructure. What really depressed me was the lack of get up and go, and a complete dependence on 'God will provide'. I found the lack of hope really hard to swallow, and also the complete take over by the Chinese for all infrastructure projects. World domination at its best.

Conversely, I found Vietnam fantastic for this reason. So much optimism, and a real sense of pride and ownership for their future. It really does change the energy of a place.

DrNo007 · 22/07/2021 14:50

Jerusalem and the surrounds. Quite interesting but wouldn't want to go back. Also, Hong Kong, because I felt so closed in by all the massive skyscrapers and the people were astonishingly rude to me--at least when I was a woman alone; when I was with DP they were just neutral. All very strange.

morningtoncrescent62 · 22/07/2021 14:51

I think I'm easily pleased. Wherever I go, I end up thinking I'd like to go back. I'm genuinely struggling to think of anywhere I've been to which I'd rule out a return trip.

I didn't read the title properly, ignore my bit about Philippines 🙄

Bradford - stayed for work and only place I've felt too unsafe to eat out alone and ended up buying food in M&S to eat in my hotel room

Southampton - too industrial, prefer the proper seaside towns either side

Gran Canaria - was so bored and couldn't wait to come home

Conversely I loved San Francisco and Alcatraz

Legoland

@MarieIVanArkleStinks

PS. Ireland? What, all of it?

The people are lovely and I've never managed to have a bad meal there yet. West Coast, especially the Ring of Kerry, are spectacularly beautiful. I understand why people might find Dublin uninspiring but as big lover of Irish literature it feels like a bit of a Mecca to me - and Belfast is a wonderful up-and-coming city which unfairly still gets a bad rap because of the troubles. Strangford Lough I've never been to but I want to, it looks simply beautiful.

(Got images of Father Jack in my head now chuntering 'I'm still on that fekin island!)

One of the most beautiful places I have ever seen is around Kylemore in Connemara. I discovered a gorgeous mountain lake with no one else around on the Twelve Bens. I remember just drinking in the scenery and feeling like I was close to Heaven.

IseeScottishhills · 22/07/2021 14:54

I know that but both are in Africa.

emibabs · 22/07/2021 14:54

Clacton - gorgeous beach, deprivation is palpable.

Haverhill - a bit sad and a lot depressing.

Marrakech - Have been twice, the first time was exciting, the second time I immediately got fatigued by the continual harassment, rudeness and constant stinky drain smell

emmathedilemma · 22/07/2021 14:54

Egypt
Amazing history but my digestive system has never fully recovered and the hassle from men in Cairo was unbearable.

AffableApple · 22/07/2021 14:55

@Arsebucket

Rome.

Instantly hated it.

Came here to see if anyone said Rome. Give me Florence any day
CoffeeRunner · 22/07/2021 14:55

Cairo. I'm glad I went once to see the pyramids & the Sphinx but felt unsafe the whole time.

Morocco (specifically Tangiers).

ThePluckOfTheCoward · 22/07/2021 14:55

Milan, Skegness, Centreparks.

I quite liked the countryside in Hong Kong and it felt very clean with really fresh air.

brokenhairband · 22/07/2021 14:57

I grew up in Oxford and the problem with it is that you have to put a lot of effort into finding the good bits, you can walk round and not see anything but go through one doorway and it’s a different world.
In the U.K. Hull and Blackpool are the places I never want to return to. London is OK if you’re going somewhere specific rather than just to potter.
Love the west coast of the highlands.

LyndaSnellsSniff · 22/07/2021 14:57

RHS Wisley. I go there very rarely but each time I do, I just feel bored and want to go to leave. It’s like each time I try eating olives: maybe this time I’ll like them. Nope, still taste like antiseptic.

CoffeeRunner · 22/07/2021 14:58

Oh yes Jerusalem & Bethlehem too. Good to have seen once.

brokenhairband · 22/07/2021 14:58

Oh, and totally agree on Centeparcs, worst place I have ever been. Amazed that people spend £1000s to go.

lovescats3 · 22/07/2021 14:59

what is New Brighton ?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 22/07/2021 15:01

Naples, there was an air of doom around the City

Yes, there is Sad That was the place I once got off a ship, looked around and got straight back on again (and I'm absolutely not the sort to imagine a bogeyman behind every tree)

Ditto San Francisco, the only place in the US where I've ever felt unsafe

Sad to see Florida named so often though - I honestly wonder how many ever get beyond the theme parks and the horrible clip joints which surround them like flies on a turd

MirandaMarple · 22/07/2021 15:01

@HarebrightCedarmoon

Cornwall is beautiful, and so is Devon but both are far too busy at this time of year. I much prefer Norfolk in summer. Quietly lovely and not so many braying idiots. If you avoid the royal estates anyway Smile.
Just been to north Norfolk for a week (in North West England) knew nothing about it beforehand. Stayed in Morston and went to Blakeney, Holkham, Burnham Market, Sheringham (to see friends on holiday too), Wells-next-the-sea and a few more. Fell in love!
Scarby9 · 22/07/2021 15:02

Blackpool - really, really didn't like it.
Malta - nice, but I felt we had 'done' it by the end of the holiday.
Any funfair - just not for me.

RisingSunn · 22/07/2021 15:03

Singapore for some reason! For me not worth the 11 hour flight. Though it is a great place; just not worth the travel (for me).

DismantledKing · 22/07/2021 15:03

@lovescats3

It’s a grothole on the Wirral
