Unexpectedly in London this Sat...what can I do?

My exh needs me to drop my DS to him this weekend in London.

I want to make use of the expensive train ticket (exh paid) and enjoy a day solo in London.

Is there anything I can do with such short notice as I assume you have to book everything these days?

I'm not into shopping, but love food, culture, art, architecture, walking etc.

Hit me with your top tips please!

Have a look at the museum and art gallery websites - I expect a lot of them will still have space for Saturday -especially for the special exhibitions.
You could see if any of the London walks appeal to you - they're usually really good :- www.walks.com/

See if the tower bridge experience has tickets. That’s quite interesting and it leaves you near areas like St Catherine’s dock, Tower of London, London Bridge.

I would go to Borough Market or Eataly for a wander round and some food. Both would be really enjoyable solo (and the weather doesn’t look fantastic)

Go see the elephants in Green park. Very cool.

Highgate cemetery is fascinating. You can do yours if the old side and self guided round the east side.

I’d go to the theatre, there are loads of cheap tickets atm and they’re not selling all the seats due to covid making it a roomy experience

Oooh I'd love the theatre! I had no idea they were actually running...

Bloomsbury area

Lovely squares with parks to wander
British museum is brilliant and always less busy than the other major ones

DH says Tate modern also good if only for the big hall! Modern art. Lovely building. Walk along the Thames

stroll along Southbank

There are lots of lovely ferries going up and down the Thames, also lots of open air films (some free at Granary Square at King's Cross) bit.ly/OpenAirCinemaLondon2021

The V&A museum

JonahofArk · 21/07/2021 20:19

There's an Alice in Wonderland exhibit at the V&A at the moment I believe. The theatres are open. You could go to Hampton Court Palace or Kensington Palace. Or the Tower of London?

Neondisco · 21/07/2021 20:35

V and a had lots of availability last week for general entry but none for special exhibitions. So I think you might still be able to get into some places.

MyCatWouldChaseYourCat · 21/07/2021 20:38

If the weather’s good, get a boat from Westminster or St Katherine’s docks fo Greenwich - always good for a wander up to the Observatory and there are places to eat as well.

There is one bookable slot at the Sky Garden for 2pm as I type. It's free and quick and a good way to get a great view.

You could do one of the architecture tours at the Barbican. V & A as suggested by others is also a very good call or the British Museum.

lotsofchooksnducks · 21/07/2021 22:08

Thanks for all the great suggestions!
Keep them coming, I'm starting a list...

Would love that! Unfortunately I don't think I'll make that slot, next time!
