Help me decide whether to take this job

Currently working as a midday supervisor at a school with a lot of problems and troubled kids. V stressful, have come out in tears many times.

Been offered a job today doing after school club at my child’s school. He can come with me there for free.

Only thing worrying me is that in a year he will be starting secondary school and for a few days a week I won’t be there to pick him up or be with him til 6.30pm. My husband is around sometimes during the week so he wouldn’t always be alone but it’s still worrying me.

The ladies at the possible new job seem lovely.

Help!

Do it for a year and then decide what to do later. One never knows what opportunities will arise from it.

I’d take the job!

Take it. Plenty of secondary school kids make their own way home. 6.30 isn't that late. You are unhappy in your current job.

Undervaluedandsad · 21/07/2021 17:52

Take the job.

Will he need you to pick him up from secondary? Can he not walk/ catch a bus?

My 12 year old will come home to an empty house a few times a week. She is sensible and enjoys having the house to herself for a bit.

You may feel happier for him to stay on his own in a year’s time.

This is all true. It also pays a lot more than my current job!

Take the job. I think the MDS is very underrated in terms of what you are expected to do. Ours are all on their knees.

Once my kids started secondary school they were ready for a little bit more independence and 6:30 isn't really late, you'll get home and miss the homework!

Lavenderpillow · 21/07/2021 18:19

@TSSDNCOP we are all on our knees, too. We are expected to deal with a total of 260 kids between two of us, and there are often aggressive incidents and children with severe learning difficulties to help amongst all that. It’s crazy.
